Shedding is minimized the most by making sure your dog is getting optimum nutrition. Shampoos have a little to do with it too. When picking out a dog food you want to look for foods where the main ingredients are MEAT...if the first ingredients are grains your dog is getting alot of fillers and not food their body was meant to digest. My personal favorites as far as quality are: Canidae, Innova, Wellness, Wysong, and Blue Buffalo. The added bonus with a high quality diet is also less waste...less work for you..and the dog doesnt need as much food to get the same nutrition. You can also give your dog a supplement called Linatone Plus...this supplement has oils and fatty acids to keep your dogs coat at its best. As far as grooming tools are concerned I love the Zoom Groom (its made by Kong and can be found at most pet supply shops) it is a rubber brush that helps rid the coat of dead hair so it helps minimize the shedding. Unfortunately some dogs do shed worse than others but by taking these steps you will be able to keep the shedding to a minimum..always remember if switching a dogs diet to do a 10% change over 10 days...ie. 10% new 90% old...day 2: 20%new 80% old...day 3: 30%new 70% old ect

And as with anything else always have your pet checked out by a vet to rule out any health related causes

We have a rough coated Jack Russell. Don't know of a way to prevent shedding, but clipping helps because the shedding hair is short. We used to take her to groomers to have her clipped. Now my husband does it and does an excellent job, much better than the $30-40 hair cuts we were paying for previously. He clips her monthly to about 1/4 inch length, but we leave her eyebrows and whiskers long and she looks adorable.

This might help... get a package of baby wipes ..any brand that has some baby oil or lanolin in the wipes..... wipe the dog down with these wipes as if you wer brushing them.... the interaction with your dog is great and also the lanolin will condition the coat and pull off much dead hair , which is the result of shedding....... It worked for me.........I have 2 rat terriers .. same kind of breed as the jack russel but just a hair bigger.........Try it .......I guarantee it will work....and most of all.........the dog will smell great......... good luck.

There is no way to prevent normal shedding. You just have to bathe, brush and vacuum on a regular basis. If the shedding is abnormal or excessive, there are lots of things that can cause it, like inadequate diet, skin diseases like mange or ringworm, metabolic diseases like hypothyroidism, etc. Make sure you are feeding a high quality diet, and perhaps add a fatty acid supplement like 3V Caps to the diet. That can really improve coat condition.

YES!!! dogs will shed more if their diet is lacking... go to walmart and buy infant vitamin drops... and add it to his food... mine wouldn't take it til i mixed it in with a package of wet food... i serve it as a treat daily to my Pom.(just a tablespoon or so) it has helped wonders. My Pom is white... and I have forrest green carpet... I was going crazy!
that is what my vet told me to do... you just go by the body weight for the dog...same as for a baby.... you can get a vitamin for dogs at the vet, but its expensive..and the baby drops do the same.
its called poly vi sol...and has a little rabbit on it.

hope it helps!
