Whenever I crave Onion rings I go to Burger King but I've had "homemade" restaurant rings before and they were think slices of onion and it was really good. You can go with the thick slices but I don't know how they make the batter...DON'T USE PANCAKE BATTER. LOL. :-)

I usually make a tempura batter that you can get in any oriental food store or ethnic food isle at your local grocery store. I have had onion rings at Sonics drive thru and it tasted like they put vanilla ice cream in their batter. Yummy!

I mix flour, old bay seasoning and a pale ale, usually sierra. Since I like mine light and crispy I make the batter more watery than usual...sorry, no exact amounts...I do it to taste
