You should netuer the dog because it can make them calmer and less prone to displays of dominance.

However, humping is not about sex, it is about dominance and sometimes about play (dogs who hump one another by taking turns aren't being dominant for real but just playing around). A dog who humps other dogs constantly even when the other dogs clearly aren't digging it is a dog who thinks he's boss everywhere he goes. In the dog world, this is the guy who just can't take a hint that no one likes him and tries to throw his weight around to be important. No one likes that guy.

Keep the dog on a leash until he gets neutered (there won't be any opportunity to hump if he's on lead) and then start socializing the dog gradually so he can learn better doggy manners. If you have a friend who has a really chill laid back dog, arrange playdates. An uptight cranky dog will not take this dog's behavior laying down, so to speak. Slowly try to expose him to more dogs to see if he can learn about dog social skills a little better, but always be prepared for the dog who has a low tolernace for this kind of behavior. A dog who won't stand for it may get aggressive, and it will be your dog's fault for not taking a hint and knocking it off.

It is most likely not a sexual thing, dogs usually hump because they are trying to establish dominance. It is completely natural. keep him on a leash with either a choke or a pinch collar (Believe it or not, pinch is easier on their neck and MUCH more effective) and when he tries to mount give him a quick jerk and then release of the leash. Get him nuetered SOON. There are way to many dogs dying in shelters everyday

The dog SHOULD be neutered!!!

Even if he's older it'll slow him down if not stop him. In an older animal, just as in humans, habits can be hard to break. But only 4 years old is not too old to neuter. It'll take about six months for the hormones to __completely__ leave his system. If this dog is neutered he'll no longer have the hormones pushing him to do things like you describe. In addition, he won't be out impregnating female dogs and contributing to the pet overpopulation problem.

Then obedience training can help with any behavioral problem(s) left over.

I would say that since it is so old, neutering won't make much of a difference. The best bet would to make sure the dog is kept under control as much as possible. What I mean by this, is not to let it roam. Have it leashed or confined in a fenced in yard, this way he has no contact with other dogs. When on a leash, make sure to keep the dog next to your body at all times, if he knows the "heel" command, it would be a good time to use it, or to teach him it.

Best of luck!

An uncastrated dog has a high testosterone level -- it makes the dog sexually aggressiove, and there is nothing you can do about it. Get the dog fix (castrated). then dog will be happier to be a pet, instead of frantic to breed, and you will have a fewer problems. The dog will be fun to be with rather than frantic to breed anything that will hold still

Neutering this dog would definitely make a difference - he'd also have much less chance of getting cancer. The dog also needs some training - why isn't your boyfriend working with this dog so he behaves?

Neutering the dog may stop the humping.

Here is a link to some more tips.

I think it will, but you need to get the advice of a vet, opinions won't help. No one knows what the out come would be except a vet
