Well, the Gulfstream V will set you back some 50 million, The global express and BBJ are in the same ball park.

Now, today the most expensive private plane, would be a Boeing 747 400

Turns out that Airforce One is not alone up there. The King of Saudi Arabia, The sultan of Brunei and the Emir of Kuwait have 747's, And I know somebody is going to say that those are not private planes, because they are State Owned, so lets turn to Mr. Kerry Packer, from Australia, he owns one too.

The 747-400 owned by the King of Saudi Arabia IS personally owned by the Royal Family. That makes it privately owned by any standard. It is far and away the most expensive PASSENGER aircraft flying today. It contains the following:
1. A fully equipped operating theater (medical).
2. Solid gold fixtures throught the aircraft.
3. Air to air missle system
4. The most expensive woods that can be had are used throught the interior in furnishings and panelling.
5. Hugely expensive Persian carpeting on the floors
6. A special Aviary for hunting falcons
7. An aquarium with all of the species of fish from the Red Sea and Persian Gulf.
8. 6 Fully equipped bathrooms with spas, showers, tubs, etc.

Let's don't even mention the video system or audio system, or 3 complete kitchens capable of preparing any meal that is required - from scratch and all of the other "standard" niceties that all of the other private 747's have.

I wouldn't be surprised if the owner is Bill Gates.
Any airplane can be sold as private.
Air Force One is the most expensive to maintain owned by Geoge Bush, himself.
That airplane could sell at billions of dollars.

The Gulfstream V actually isn't too expensive for a private plane.

as far as 'most expensive' plane is concerned it would be in the realm of the Gulfstream V and the Dassault Falcon 7X. these are in excess of 20 million easy.

but for pure pleasure and visual appeal, check this one out:

Try over 50 mil for a new G550. Probably the BBJ. Depending how much you pimp it out. Operating costs are definalty the highest.

"Private" refers to ownership, not to a type of aircraft. If you had enough money, you could buy your own A380 or 777.
