It will be expensive. Can't you get a bus to San Fran and then north of 101. I know they cut a lot of bus service up 101. There is really no direct way to get there. If you can get a patient cabby that will take you through the mountains that would help. Why not fly into San Fran and then take the shuttle flight up the coast to Arcata. I have used the flight shuttle out of Arcata before. If you can get a taxi from Arcata or Eureka it would be cheaper than a taxi from Sacremento. I know there is a small shuttle bus that runs into Crescent City. I think you need to contact a travel agent. I found it was cheaper to buy a round trip ticket than to just pay the price for one way. Once I even bought a round trip to LA from Arcata and just jumped off when I got into San Fran.

If you can pay a cabbie $100 flat rate to take you there, that would help.

I've given cabbies flat rate fares to take me over 50 miles from Baltimore to DC. The cabbie will appreciate the fare and the company.
