Don't feed your cat tuna in any form. I can't imagine where the tuna in that 35 cent can of Trader Joe's (and I like TJ's and shop there a lot for my food) stuff comes from. There is a great risk of mercury contamination in ANY tuna.

I have a cat that does this too and she is 13. I have started using some Natural Balance canned meats. All my cats seem to like them and Sylvie is finally eating the meat instead of just licking off the gravy. NB has three or four "flavors". I have gotten the NB at a local discount pet store and you may have to go to a small, owner-operated pet store to find it. They have a superior dry food too -- a venison and pea, a chicken and rice.

My cats also used to do this until I started mashing the food up so the gravy or jelly got mixed in with the meat too thoroughly for them to lick it off. Now they eat it all.

Try a jelly based cat food.my cats licked the gravy when i give them meat in gravy so i changed it to the jelly. i actually feed them a dry food (IAMS)now which works out cheaper in the long run. i have two cat and they both like different flavours and each bag costs just over £5 each but last about 3 wks. i'd be spending in the region of £23 if i stuck with the tinned food and theres no waste.

Dry food only is terrible for the cat. One word, dehydration. Do NOT listen to people who advise to switch to dry food only!!

What you do is supply additional moisture to the cat in a way that she will accept it - cats have very low thirst drive and will not drind sufficient amount of water, if left to themselves. Licking the "garnish" from the canned food is good, pity she doesn't like the meat.

But do be careful about buying human food (gravy) to the cat, as human and feline metabolsims are very different.

Good luck!

Catnip drops are supposed alcohol to a cat. But my cat just sniffs them, then roles over in a playful mood. I've never seen her actually eat them. But in your case...I'm not sure because my cat loves meat covered in jelly. Maybe you should buy Whiskers or Sheeba. Both are exquisite to a cat. Or have you tried giving your cat non-smoked salmon? The thing is gravy is actually bad by itself. Imagine if you just ate jelly all day. You'd soon be very ill. Your cat may prefer it but is it doing her any good?

I doubt very much that she would leave real meat. Ours does the same. It doesn't matter what type of pet food you buy whether it is Turkey, Fish (different varieties), Beef, Rabbit, Chicken, it all looks exactly the same with that brown muck that goes for meat. So, whenever we have fish (cod which is particular liked) chicken (when we have a roast), turkey (occasionally) plain cooked, but a particular favourite is pre-shelled prawns; we give him a share.

I noticed a lot of conflicting advice has been given here, but just think of what wild feral cats live on - small rodents, birds, insects, etc

My cats do the same thing, well one does, the other will eat the food. They sell a product, its in the dog food isle, its a gravy for dogs, but cats can use it. Its the exact gravy in the cans of cat/dog food. So you can give your cat some of it or you can add some of it with dry food. My cats really like it, can't tell the difference. And they are pretty picky eaters.

Yeh my cats do that too! They're so fussy! Havent seen any cat gravy or jelly, but maybe some big pet stores would have it.

I'd have to recommend Adi's cat food as well. My cat has been given every brand going but can't get enough of the cheap stuff - especially the foil packed treats
