Its seems that it is more socially acceptable for someone (anyone) to say the word "cracker" than it is to say the word "******". Why is that? Shouldn't they both be equally derrogitory? I feel they NEITHER should be used, but I am boggled by the fact that TV/Radio never "beeps out" the word "cracker" and never fails to when the word "******" is used. To make my point YAHOO has even blanked out the word -n-i-g-g-e-r-. in my dialogue above and DID NOT blank out the word cracker. So my point has been well proven, even in just the simple act of posting this question.

First of all, the word ****** was used to refer to a black person during the 400 plus years of slavery. Second of all, the word cracker is only used to basically compare the similarity of color in a cracker and a Caucasian. So unless you or any of your ancestors went through the torch er, humiliation and horror that the black race did for hundreds of years and were called a cracker because of it, then you should understand the difference unless you are just plain stupid! By the way, i am Mexican!

Well, while they are both MEANT to be as mean as the other... I think it's all in how it's responded to. White people don't really care about the word 'cracka'. It doesn't phase them so it's not as affective, therefore it's not seen as being equally as bad as the 'N' word. Black people are more offended by the 'N' word if it comes from the mouth of a non-black person, so it has more of an affect. Really, the fact that you COULD write the word 'cracker' and couldn't write the 'N' word should tell you which is more offensive.

And by the way...'dufus' above, if you can't figure out if someone is referring to the food, or using the word as a derogatory comment aimed at race, who's the dufus?

Put it in context - if you are white person, surrounded by a group of blacks who are shouting "cracker" or "whitey" at you, it might just bother you a tad.

Otherwise it is just silly slang for twits with a poor vocabulary. And if you live in a part of the world (unlike, say, Atlanta) where you are the racial and ethnic majority, chances are prejudice against you won't be much of an issue.

I hear blacks use the N word, loudly, in public, so often that it has ceased to have any meaning. But know what's really offensive, to me anyway? White kids calling each other "*****." Really. It's got to stop.

Na. Not true. Look up in Greek mythology ' Scylla and Carybdis '. And you in the middle with your preconceived notions/disinformation.

Also check military tactic ' hammer and anvil ' which of course failed miserably in Viet Nam and almost anywhere else.

Worthless terms. A hook. Actually, both these groups work together more closely than you think. It's become a non term and a lost scam. Nobody buys this $h!t anymore.

Just you young people coming up who don't know about this disgrace. And all those poor oppressed black folks without the moral courage to tell them so.

But content to feed off of it. And you know those other guys' middle name is ... ' apathy. ' Like swilling hogs. That's all they're good for. Why they're so big. But only in body.

Here's what you call 'em. And it is neither ' worse ' nor ' bad '. Opportunist. Scam artist. Liar. Venal. Corrupt. That'll do for a start.

There is a long slave history on the word ~N~ but the word cracker was not set until further down so the word ~N~ is more to terms worse than cracker is But yes they were both meant to slap some one in the face but with history and in time cracker got shoved to the side and meant nothing and ~N~ stayed the same. Its a shame that little saying is not true in away parents back in the day use to say

what is it every one

Sticks and stones may break my bones but names may never harm me.

that's some Bu** Sh**t

I always thought that the words that non-caucasian people use as racial slurs (cracker, whitey, honkey, etc.) are silly to the point of being ridiculous, and I've never understood why anyone would be offended. Someone (on here at Answers) called me whitey once, and I wasn't upset at all--I'm actually quite proud of my people, and it was more of a compliment than anything. As for n***er, that's an offshoot of *****, which is how blacks were referred to back in the day. ***** is actually Spanish for black, so I don't know how this is offensive either. Outdated, yes. If someone called me blanca (Spanish for white) I wouldn't be offended.

Neither should be used. However small minded people choose to use them. As for yahoo not censoring the word "Cracker" is cause yahoo is not up to date on the slang terms used now days. Maybe that is something you should suggest to them.

In my opinion they are both equally offensive. I also feel that neither word should be used, but that's nogt going to stop people from saying it. Also, I think they both sound stupid when used by anyone.
