The ceiling of the test.
Most IQ tests cannot test beyond 145 SD 15.
Good tests can test to around 165 SD 15. 165 IQ SD 15 is defined as 1 in 136,000, or the 99.9992 percentile.
No widely used tests test beyond 165 SD 15. You need to take a high range test if your IQ is measured at '165+' to see how high it is, however, most high range tests can be misleading and their accuracy is debated.
The highest IQ in the world right now on a SD 15 scale, that has actually been recorded, is 195. Marilyn Vos Savant, mentioned above, has a score of 186 on the SD 15 scale. Her score of 228 is using another scale.
William Sidis was estimated at 200-225 on the SD 15 scale. However, this was an estimate. The tests available to him then could not even come close to testing such high IQs. I doubt his IQ was 225, such an IQ is truely a nearly impossible feat. 200 is more probable (1 in 76 billion).
225 IQ would be equal to 1 in 346,430,740,566,961, at a low estimate (it would actually be even rarer than this). I don't believe it for a minute. That's 346 trillion btw.

I do not believe there is a cut off on the highest possible IQ test score, and test scores can vary from test to test. My research reveals that the highest IQ on a living person of which there has been confirmation by MENSA is that of Marilyn vos Savant (228). William James Sidis was another contender who was believed to have a crudely estimated IQ of (250-300).

There's no maximum. The IQ is a ratio of your "intellectual age" to a standard, with a cap for adults. I believe the highest tested IQ for an adult is in the 220 range, with it being nearly 300 for a child.

my little pocket IQ test says this:
IQ above 130 only applies to 2.2% of population
IQ below 70 applies to 2.2% of population
the age/IQ scale only goes to IQ of 160+ so I would work on the figure of 160 as being considered the very top of the range.
95-105 is considered "normal" IQ
IQ of 110 is higher than 75% of the total population
IQ of 100 is higher than 50% of the total population

It depends upon the IQ test, but most of them don't measure above 200.
