My friend had one done and lost 60 lbs and then some later. It is NOT your first choice! Have you tried modified diet AND exercise? (I mean really tried, not just for a couple weeks). If not, give that a go first...and NOT some lame thing like a program w/food you pay for, which is desingned to make you lose wt, then gain it back for their profit! (repeat biz!).

How overweight ARE you? If you are "morbidly obese" (ask your doctor...he'll be pleasantly surprised...it's not something patients usually want to hear). IF NOT...try diet and exercise...remember...you DO have to modify your diet, radically, FOREVER, with Lap Band! The only good thing is that it's probably reversible if it doesn't work.

Check into WHY you are overweight. Is it what you eat or how much? An overweight person can keep weight on w/eating very little! Or is it lack of exercise? Or a disease? (hypothyroidism is a common cause).

IN short, get a thorough evaluation before electing this SERIOUS surgery. If you DO decide, my friend recommends doing lots of research and finding the best surgeon possible. Also, dont' expect miracles from it...you won't be happier, necessarily. SHE isn't!

I hope this doctor has been working with you for quite some time to help you lose weight by non-surgical means. If not, I recommend a second opinion.

I had a friend who had gastric bypass surgery, and died two weeks later as a result of surgical complications. I would only consider surgery as a serious last-resort option.

Gastric Bypass Surgery /gastrectomy/stomach stapling /lapband (all types of bariatric surgery) is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your obesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her surgery for gastric bypass in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps
