I hung out with a male friend of mine not too long ago, who brought along a friend. We all hung out went to lunch, went shopping, went out for drinks, etc. I saw him (the tag-along) again at my usual hangout last night and we talked for awhile and then he asked for my number.

I gave him my number because you can never have to many friends but I did not elaborate on that when I gave him my number.
So he called me today and left me a message…here is my question.. Would it be weird/rude if I call him back to chat and tell him right away I don't want to date him or have any sort of relation with him unless it is friendly? I feel that he thinks since I gave him my number that means I'm fair game. I just don't want to seem arrogant. What should I do..? Tell him right off the bat when I talk to him so he doesn't try to ask me out on a date, or wait until I see him (we hang out at the same place all the time)?

That would be rude coz he didnt do anything to have his feelings hurt.. i think the best is to go out with him one more time and in a clever way to talk about you and him and how is he imagining your relation with him? and then you can tell him what you like and what you dont like in a nice way ..

I'd wait and see how the conversation is going when he calls. Don't start the conversation with "I don't want to date you, but we can be friends". Give him the benefit of the doubt. He may just want a friend too. If the conversation starts leaning towards him hinting at a date, just be clear that you enjoy making new friends, but you're not looking to date him.

If he asks you out, THEN tell him you're not interested. He probably does think that you like him since you gave him your number in a bar and all, but if you wait til he asks, or at least gives some clue that he is in to you, you will avoid looking arrogant and stupid.

i do not think that you should just come right out and say it to him.. cause what if you do and he says something like... well i did not want to date you in the first place, i just wanted to be friends... then you 2 have already made things akward.. wait till you see big signs. maybe you will end up dating him down the road who knows? take things one day at a time!

How do you know this guy wants to date you? If he doesn't, and you make a big point of saying you don't want to date him, you'll look stupid. Just be casually friendly when you see him, don't spend a lot of time talking to him alone when you see him out & about, don't return his calls.

How do you even know if he wants to have anything more than just a friendship with you? Don't jump the gun. When or if the subject of you two dating comes up then simply tell him that you just want a friendship with him and nothing more.
