I have naturally long straight, black,shiny hair and am thinking of getting highlights to give it a new look. I was thinking of getting red highlights (and I mean red red like the color blood). Has anyone done that before? Any other advise/suggestions I can use? Should I get brown highlights instead.

My friend has done that, Just don't do bright red (unless you want the different look). I'd say you should do a dark red, I think it would look good.
I think brown highlights would look more natural, just think of what you want to do, and decide depending on how you feel about it.

Why not get both? I find that multi color highlights blend wonderfully. I get my hair highlighted with foils and use 3 different colors and it looks great. Ask for an experienced colorist who has done it before and you should have no problems getting great results.

Use a temporary highlighting kit to see if you like it first. Your hair sounds too beautiful to ruin by stripping the color from it.

Don't do highlights, straight black hair is soooo pretty. Once you do highlights, you'll never have it the same way again.

You should try getting burgendy blended into your hair instead of light-colord highlights. when your at the mall or just out and about in the sun, your hair is relaly noticable and that shimmering sort of redish color in your hair is nice. to me it sounds good, but again its your hair. good luck.

For you NO red or brow highlights it won't look good on you!!!
