Think carefully before starting the Atkins or any diet similar to it. Lower carb can be a good idea, but cutting sugars, breads, yeast, pasta and starchy foods while maintaining healthy carbs such as whole grains may be a better plan than Atkins or the like.
Atkins cuts essential nutrients out of your diet, while not limiting any of the unhealthy oils and milkfats (butter, cheese, etc.) that should really be kept to a minimum. Extra virgin olive oil, fish, almonds and avocados, for example, all contain healthy fats that you should increase, while decreasing the other, unhealthy, fats.
If you really need to lose weight fast, try replacing meals with protein shakes - bananas, real fruit juice (no added sugar, corn syrup, etc.), fresh fruit, soy milk, soy protein and ice in the blender. I went from a size 7 to a 3 in four weeks (to fit into my wedding dress) on protein shakes!
I know a couple of people who developed extremely painful kidney stones after being on an Atkins-type diet.
I highly recommend a healthy lifestyle change accompanied by exercise instead of a "diet".

I think it depends on your body type and your health. Weight Watchers is an all around good diet plan. Anyone can be on this program and it helps them. Aktins on the other hand people have to watch doing this diet, I have a heart problem and doing Atkins would be a horrible idea because of all the meat consumed. Atkins does give you results but is not all too healthy. And the weight will come back. Weight Watchers though does help.. just not as fast but in a healthy way. Take your pick. There are reasons for choosing both Atkins or Weight Watchers. Also money can factor in, meats can be expensive.. but also the payments into Weight Watchers can add up.

You can start off with a modified Atkins, and transition to a Weight Watchers program to maintain a long term diet. Look at the types of food WW prepares, and try to copy them at home. It will save you money in the long run, and you will be less dependent on WW.

I've tried both. And neither worked for me. However, I did recently try hypnosis. The best thing in the world I could have ever done for myself. In the past 3 weeks, I've lost 7 lbs. quit drinking sodas ( including diet ). Changed my eating habits without having to constantly think about it. I have replaced water as my drink of choice. There are not enough positives I can say about hypnosis. Is it for everyone? I don't know...it certainly has been a positive experience for me. Btw.. my hypnosis was a private session, recorded on cd, so, I can listen to it whenever I choose. Which is often. Good luck to you.

Neither. The best thing to do is moderate your food intake, eat healthy and exercise. Diets don't work because as soon as you lose the weight, you go back to your old habits and gain it back again. Especially Atkins, which, over a period of time, is not good for you since too much protein is bad for your kidneys and you're allowed to eat too much fatty foods on Atkins, which is also bad for your heart. If you just change your eating habits, it becomes a lifestyle change and you'll stick with it. Good luck!

Weight Watchers. It combines exercise with eating the right amounts of the right foods.
Atkins isn't proven to be without serious health risks. You are throwing your whole system into keto-acidosis to remove excess pounds quickly. That has to be dangerous. I'm just waiting for everyone on Atkins to die of cancer in thiry years. (It's possible, but not proven that cancer cells do better under acidic conditions.) Besides, with all those ketones coming out of your pores all the time, you will smell like someone spilled a beer on you.
Once... is right too, I know a girl who does TOPS.

weight watchers. It may take longer, but it is actually HEALTHY!! Atkins is NOT healthy. First of all, you're getting WAY too much fat, and not enough carbs. Carbs are IMPORTANT in a diet.
The best "diet" online is www.sparkpeople.com
They're awesome! :-) You can keep track of everything! It's very motivational and FULL of support :-) Best of all, it's FREE!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

atkins is actually bad for you. whether people want to believe it or not, Dr. Atkins or w/e his name is died of a heart attack from following his own diet plan, but they don't tell you that because then you won't follow it. they limit all the carbs but hike up the amounts of fats and the wrong ones, so your arteries get clogged and if you stay on it too long -- you'll probably end up like good ole dr. atkins. try just limiting portions, exercise or whatever. personally, i just ate once a day, and a small meal. not starving myself.. just--limiting. idk, it came off quick [yeah i know "the quicker it comes off the faster it'll come back on" but not in my case]. i think i lost about 8lbs a week, sometimes less sometimes more, depending on what i DID eat when i got the chance. keep yourself busy and you won't think of food that much, and technically, if you're doing a lot of running around [errands or whatever] that's still exercise.. just not vigorous. if you're going to fall into one of those "fad diets" then do some research first. find the positives and the negatives of it, and depending on your lifestyle, do what's best for you.. or, make up your own lol, good luck!

Atkins did not die of a heart attack from using his own diet. I used Atkins and lost 50 lbs, I also lost my diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and 3 pants sizes.
