Toothbrush, toothpaste, new socks, and of course, pictures of you. If he likes cookies those are nice too. I know they are random but my husband is in the military and trust me, new socks are great out there.

I'm in Iraq right now and the one thing that we look forward to the most is mail. Its a real morale booster. Send whatever you want - there are certain restrictions such as illegal items and alcohol or illegal drugs of course. Make it personal and send care packages often. He probably has enough personal hygiene items - because people always send those. Send him stuff to keep him busy on his down time like movies, books and letters.

Handkerchieves that you have washed and ironed (they smell of home). A tape of your voice (we use dictaphones). New socks. Books and CDs. Baby wipes (the tubs are better than the packets which dry out quickly in the heat). Photographs. Newspaper articles which you think might interest him, a small, wrapped, gift in every box if he will be there for his birthday or Christmas, so he has plenty of packages to open, and all the love you can stuff into the box!

My son was over there for a year and we found that the px stores on the fobs did not have a really good selection of personal care items. We all have our own favorite brands of toothpaste,soap, deodorant, etc. Also they need lots of baby wipes and snack type foods. Be sure to put each item in a ziplock bag so that if it comes open in transit it won't mess up other items. The postal service will not ship aerosol cans by air. So don't list them as such on your customs form. Each soldier has his or her own likes and dis-likes as far as snacks. My son liked beef jerky, pop tarts and crunch N' munch! Good luck to you and I will pray for your boyfriend.

Two part answer;
What NOT to send: He is in a Muslim country and the military respects their traditions. No pork or items containing pork, pornographic pictures or magazines, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, check web based weather sites for Baghdad weather and do NOT send chocolate until the temperature is low enough not to melt it. Do not send "no name" brand calling cards, many won't work at all, or will only give actual calling time that is a fraction of the time listed on the card.Do not send any food that is "home made", they can only eat food that comes in a sealed factory container. No clothing that have logo's on them.
What to send: LETTERS! LETTERS!, LETTERS! Toiletries that he would nornally use at home. Snack foods, Socks and under garments are quickly worn out by the sand and are hard to find as are all sizes of batteries. Anything powered by electricity shound be dual voltage 110/220 if possible. Crystal Lite "On the go" and Koolaid "Singles" to flavor the water because Iraqi water tastes like camel s**t. They have little to do on their time off so games, puzzles, hobby stuff, sports equipment, video games, music and movie CD's are like GOLD.
When you send your packages you will need a Customs Declaration, USPS form 2976-A (two per package) available at any Post Office or order them online free of charge at the USPS website. I STRONGLY recommend that you send packages Priority Mail and Insured. A little pricey, but it greatly reduces the risk of the contents being pilfered.
Finally say "Thank You" to your boy friend from me for his sacrifice and service to the country. It is comforting to know there are so many fine young men and women, such as your boy friend, willing to keep watch over the country. My family sleeps safe and sound at night over here because of what your boy friend and others like him are doing over there. And "Thank You" to you for shareing him with the country. I know it's hard and you miss him. Military wives and girl friends are the salt of the earth.

When My ex was in the military he would ask for his favorite shaving things like the cream and shavers, shampoo, soap, mags, playing cards, dice, snacks that will keep, (homemade treats are nice too! He always shared w/his buddies) make sure you wrap them very, very good!, wash cloths, t-shirts, extra socks, and pictures from home! You may even want to send him something personal of yours with your perfume sprayed on it(make sure it's not too personal) Use bubble rap and put any creams or liquid stuff in ziploc bags. Don't forget to put a nice card in the box signed from his family too! :)

Sexy pictures of you and I guess any type of snack that he loved to eat. Cant forget about a new toothbrush and personal hygiene stuff like that. You can even send him some magazines that you know he would enjoy reading. Or how about a c.d. of songs that you two enjoyed listening to together. Or what about a pair of your underwear to remind him of some good times. I guess you can send him anything that you know he would enjoy.

They need insect repellent, baby wipes, a phone calling card, toilet paper (no chocolate candy), Pringles, cookies, beef jerky, maybe favorite soap, deodorant, baby powder, shampoo, toothpaste, razor blades, People magazine, video game, CD player and cds, batteries. Why don't you ask him what he'd like from home. Letters everyday are always the best and pictures of you.

Personal hygiene products like foot powder, toothpaste, shaving cream etc. Ziploc bags to keep it all in. A personal memento from you. And some small goodies that he likes which won't melt in the heat-candy, gum etc.
