I think that men and women frequently display their artistic talents in very different ways. However, I think the sexes are equally artistic, as long as you take into account that men are more likely to be artistic at certain things and women at others.

For example, rock and roll is overwhelmingly male and decoupage is overwhelmingly female. Both take skill and creativity, but motivations must be different to appeal so differently to the sexes.

There are broad areas of overlap, such as writing, painting and photography, where women and men seem fairly balanced.

The truth of the matter is not that one is more talented than the other, it is more that men traditionally are able to focus more on whatever artistic pursuit they are involved in.

Women through the ages have not been as able to stay focussed due to marriage, babies, social pressures, etc. That is why, for example in the field of fine art, it is predominantly men.

Yes, I am female, but I am really really trying to be unbiased here and have not jumped up on my little soap-box.

Neither. It's just always been a male-dominated field, like everything else. It has to do more with upbringing, genetics, etc. (I've also found that many lefties are extremely talented...!)
