Dont do any fad diets.
Ie; that means any socalled famous diet.
Most require things that wont work longterm.
Best:
1. Exercise
2. Portion control
3. Eat properly - not junk
4. cut out pop (<-me)
5. Eat a lot of fruit.
6. Eat nuts (depends on the nut, I cant eat peanuts).
7. Dont go back for 2nd's.
The above helped me lose 150 pounds, and I kept it off for 5 years before medical problems caused me to gain some of it back.
The above 1-7 do not require special effort and also doent require u to give up favorite foods...just cut back on em.
For example: I also build into this a once a week intentional failure, but eventually that goes away too.

I was in the bookstore today and I was flipping through the south beach diet cookbook. The food looks really good. And you get to eat 3 meals a day plus 2 snacks.

you can eat anything you want as long as you excercise like crazy. i read an article on michael phelps ( the olympian swimmer). the man eats like 8 pancakes in the morning, smothered with maple syrup, not to mention all the bacon and the eggs and junk. but most of us dont get paid to do something athletic, so we dont have that luxury of time for excercise. your best bet is something evenly balanced. low calorie, high fiber meals in small portions and plenty of excercise. try to eat like 5-6 small portions instead of 3 big ones.
