1. If she needs any medications, try going directly to the drug manufacturers. These companies all have programs set up just for people like you mom who don't have insurance. Talk to the nursing staff at your physician's office.
2. I assume that she is going to a cancer center - see if they have a social worker available to speak with. Perhaps they can see if your mom is eligible for any government health insurance programs.
3. Try calling the American Cancer Society
4. Depending on the type of cancer she has, try searching her type of cancer on the internet and see if they have an organization specific to that cancer that might be able to help
5. Appeal to your community - hold BBQ's, carwashes, etc. Get you local church involved.

Hope this helps some!!!

Yes, a cancer patient can purchase life insurance, however, it would be very expensive, and may require a single payment. Don't let the cost be of great concern. Purchasing life insurance isn't always about getting a greater benefit than the premium paid. sometimes it is about tax treatment of death benefit. If a person with cancer was looking to leave money to their heirs without inheritance taxes, a life insurance policy is the way to go.

First of all, you need to contact the Cancer Society of America (I think that's what it is called). You need to see if there is any kind of help in your city or town. There are certain agencies etc., that offer help and sometimes the cost is free. Get some containers with lids, write on a piece of paper about your mother, her problem and asking for donations to help pay the bills. It's usually good to include a photograph. You can also ask your church and or local community to help.

Here are several suggestions to help you:

Medicaid is the Federal State Health Insurance Program for those with no Insurance. You can call your local STATE WELFARE OFFICE.....HEALTH DEPARTMENT.....or the MEDICAID OFFICE.

American Cancer Society:: Call this number 1-800-ACS-2345 and they will tell you where the nearest office is in your city.

Something else really interesting I found during my search was a program called::
AVONcares....This is for uninsured women with Breast, Cervical or Ovarian Cancer.
Here is their number:: 1-800-813-4673
www.cancercare.org

Patient Advocate Foundation:: This is free legal advice to patients with financial problems.
1-800-532-5274

I truly hope some of this information will be of help to you...
Sincerely in my thoughts........

Have a multi family tag sale. While it is often times hard to get people to give any significant amount of money, almost everyone has stuff in their house that they just haven't gotten around to getting rid of that would sell. And buyers like 'multi family' tag/garage sales because they figure they'll have more to select from.

But if she has no insurance and few assets, you should get her a lawyer. He'll be able to get her qualified for MedicAide which would then pick up all her medical expenses....

What about a fundraiser? We recently did one for breast cancer research we went to local businesses and asked them to donate different items such as free meals, gift certificates etc. We had a bowl-a-thon where this local bowling alley allowed us to use their place for free during the day when their business was slow. We held raffles where we raffled off what the local businesses donated. You could hold a bottle drive, car wash, ask your local grocery store if you could set up a table in front and ask for donations. Good luck to you, I know it's hard to see a loved one go through that.

We had a benefit dance for my nephew - a band or DJ is usually willing to donate time if you have it in the off season. 50/50 raffles, spaghetti dinner etc. It is a lot of work but we raised almost $20,000 on three dances. Since the patient is your mom you may not have time to deal with such a large event... so enlist the help of friends and family.

Have you begun to work with the local blood center for a blood drive? The coordinator assigned to you will be a great touchstone for your family. She/He may be able to guide you to aid groups and charities. it is their job and they know it well. I know from experience.

Being an organizer of a blood drive will help so many people, including your mom and yourself. It gives you a sense that you are making a difference when so much is out of your control.

We also worked with a local golf club that held a tournament to fray some of the costs of my little girls care. I will keep you in my thoughts and encourage you to take care of yourself, too. I know this advice is just a drop in the bucket, but it is truly heartfelt.
