Having the desire to eat things that aren't food (like dirt, charcoal, grass, etc) is a disorder called "Pica". Talk to your doctor, because you nay have a vitamin deficency or something that needs to be taken care of. Good luck with your pregnancy!

I craved the smell of "PLAY-DOH", and wanted to eat ice the whole time I was pregnant with my first. I found out later that it was because I had an Iron deficiency, especially because of the ice. I also heard of craving chalk or starch. It sounds weird I know, but hear it is quite common. If you have a weird craving like this just give it a mention to your doc, they may be able to tell you what it is you are missing in your diet, so you and baby will both be as healthy and strong as you can be!

My strangest craving was a case of tangerines a day, but that's not real strange. I have heard of cravings like dirt and stuff. What you're doing is craving a certain type of vitamen or mineral like iron. You need to find out what that craving has a lot of and find something edible to subdue the craving.

Besides craving grapes and ice, I also had a strange craving to eat dirt. Although I did take a few mouthfuls, I had to restrain myself because I knew that it could not have been good for me and my baby. My craving for dirt was particularly strong whenever it rained and I would smell the dirt. Was that bizarre or what!!!???

The strangest thing I ever craved was Beer Batter Bread. I didn't want the actual beer...but I wanted the beer flavor bread. Outside of that, nothing incredibly abnormal. With my second I seem to have an issue with ice, which I normally am not too fond of. But thankfully nothing weird like dirt or chalk lol.

I guess I'm in some sort of minority when it comes to pregnancy cravings.

I didn't have any weird or outrageous cravings with either of my pregnancies.

I pretty much ate the same way I did before I got pregnant.

I'd pass on the coal but I lived on Chinese food. Moo shoo all the way. I can't believe I ate that for 6 months daily!
