I am thinking about buying one of those automated cat box cleaners, but I have heard many bad things about them, I would certainly love not having to scoop up my kitties poopy every day but.. I also don't want to waste my money on a product that doesn't work very well. Anyone who has one or has had one, please let me know, thanks.

I have had two different automatic boxes now. We went with that route when we adopted our first cat because we are both gone all day and didn't want the box getting to nasty for him to use.

The littermaid was the first one; the receptacles are pricey and the plastic tines are troublesome. When it died (the tines pulled out of the motor bar and were spraying stuff all over) we switched brands to the Purrforma. The metal tines hold up a lot better than the plastic, and the receptacles (bags, not plastic bins) are a lot cheaper. I really like the longer wait times - the Littermaid is 10 minutes, the Purrforma is 10, 15, or 20 minutes. We have it on 15 minutes and extra time lets the pee clump better so the tines don't get stuck in it.

The only downside to the new one is that my younger cat won't use it yet- so I have to manually scoop the first box. I just toss his stuff into the new box and it scoops it into the bag for me. :)Both my boys are 15 lbs +; missing the box hasn't been an issue yet.

Hey girl. I have three cats and one is a 20lb tom cat, and he is the only reason that I don't use mine. Because he is so big that he misses and or gets the litter all over the place. Yet my two others do fine with it. I am thinking if your cat (cats) are not bigger than 16lb's. The reason is that the box is just too small for the big ones to go in it. I keep it out only for my 11 yr old cat. She only weighs 9 lbs. So she is perfect. But yes you will not be waisting your money. But you will need to make sure you clean the ridges on long the roller. They some times get gunk it it. But it is life to work hard to provide your loved animal to stay alive and happy.

I have one and I have several cats. They all seem to do well with it. The only problem is emptying the little box that the waste goes into. I have to do that about every other day. I don't put in a new one each time. I dump it and then put it back in and use it some more. You have to use good quality clumping cat litter or things can mess up really quickly.

It is good for 1 cat but once I had 3 cats all using it and it would get backed up/clogged! you still need to empty it and replace the plastic box the waste goes in to. Also the clumping litter can stick to the combs, they give you a little brush to clean it off, but its kind of gross. It also can be loud so keep it away from your bedroom

What I do for my kitties is keep the litter box in the bathroom and use 1 gallon ziplock bags and a scooper for the waste. I clean it everyday and throw the ziplock away on trash day.

I will scoop the box once per day it is far easier and less mess than the automatic box.
The thing that the watse goes into stinks really bad when you change it. And if you get the box to full it does not work right.
The litter gets to deep and it will not pull up the clumps.
My cat is not picky and I scoop the box once or twice per day and it is less of a mess than the auto one.
I went back to the old plain box.

I have two cats and one was found diabetic while they were using this. If your cats are big and pee alot, this is not a good thing for you. The automation will get caught up in the mess and continue to go until the motor runs out. I have seen itty bitty kitties like this thing as there is not alot of trouble getting through their mess. Just a thought.

Never really considered it as I have five cats and six litterboxes. Cats only poop once a day. I scoop into a brown paper lunch bag and put it out with the trash.

I do use a "natural" litter that does not harm the environment.

We had one for a while, but with two big cats it could not handle the load. We have since thrown it away and gone back to the manual method.

It actually worked pretty well for a few weeks, but as it got dirtier things started to stick to it and not filter through the comb. Then it just got completely clogged. So you can either clean it really well or do it manually. We decided it was easier to scoop manually.

I considered getting one, too. But have decided against it. The first problem I saw is how expensive those receptacles are. The second problem is all the really bad reviews I've read....where the major complaint is the rakes getting clumped up with cat litter and ceasing to work properly.

Works fine with only 1 cat using it.
