Is it right for a school system to make it a crime for parents to send peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to school with their children? It's happening right here in our State. Seems they are worried about the handful of kids who are allergic to peanuts! Shouldn't it be the responsibility of the Allergic child and their parents to take control of this and NOT make children who bring a peanut butter sandwhich to school, look like a criminal. I know for a fact, that a child who did bring one to school, had to sit at a table all alone for lunch! Does this sound RIGHT to anyone out there?

I live in Virginia. And YES, the allergic child SHOULD be the one isolated, but I was told that they didn't want them to feel "abnormal" that's why the "normal" kids are made to feel isolated! If a child is SO allergic that the smell of something like a peanut could kill them, WHAT are they doing in a public school system? What are they doing in PUBLIC, period!???? What next, Milk, cheese, butter, BREAD! THE SKIN ON OUR BODIES????? I really think the school system is just covering it's butt from possible "stupid" law suits, that oddly enough, this day and age, could be WON!!!

No it doesn't sound right, on the contrary... If anyone should be made to sit apart it is the child with the allergy...And not as an ostracism, but as a protective measure. There is no reason a child without allergies should be deprived of a food he likes.
I have a nephew with a very bad lactose allergy. You can't even eat a piece of cheese and give him a kiss without him breaking out in a rash...However his little brother has no allergy. Their mother feeds them both in consequence... together.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. A child can have an attack from SMELLING peanuts. I have a friend whose child landed in the hospital from the smell of roasted peanuts in the air. Parents of allergic children DO take charge, because parents without allergic children think it is not that important. In our school, there is a "peanut allergy" table in the cafeteria where the allergic kids eat. If they want a friend to sit with them, it is ok, and the friends know what they CANNOT bring to the table. My children can bring PB&J, but they cannot bring a peanut item to class for snack. Personally, I think it is a good lesson in tolerance and compassion to have to look out for the welfare of another child, instead of being selfish about themselves.

No this sounds absolutely crazy!!
Just further proof that our society and systems seem to get further and further away from the concept of responsibility!
Of course we don't want any child to die from eating a peanut, but sheltering a child from that danger won't help...remember the story of the princess and the spinning wheel? In the end, her own ignorance of the dangers is what got her.
I agree with you, this should not be allowed!

Well, I don't think it's right I think the way as you let the allergic child and their parents to take control of the problem. The other children don't have nothing to do with it.

i see nothing wrong with parents giving their children peanut butter sandwiches to take to schol. buit i also see the school issue on it. because lets say, your child takes the snadwish to school. then one of his/her classmates wants a bite. and your child gave it to them. they in return are super allergic, dont tell anyone, and five minutes later they go into a seizure stage and have to be rushed to the hopsital. the teacher is going to ask who gave them the peanut butter sandwich. your son/daughter says they did, they are small, so you the parents get called in. in a teacher/aprent conference becasue your son/daughter gave this child a sandwiched. i gues what i am trying to say, to prevent a disaster from happening, the school probably wants to prevent this from happening. so leave the peanut butter sandwiches as a snack for when your son/daughter gets home from school.

Which communist state are you living in? Hell no it is not a crime, nor should it be. Wouldn't it be more of a crime to send a child to school with no lunch at all.

Which state are you in? And post some links for your legislators, so we can all send angry e-mail to those commies.

No, it sounds rather retarded! I think America gets dumber and dumber every year. When I have kids, i"m gonna be sad that everyone these days is so uptight about stupid sh*t that I never had to worry about when I was a kid.
