I am in my mid 20's and I have braces!

I had them when I was 12 and now over a decade later I had to get them again.

Lucky for me though, I only have to wear them for 18 months.

It is so embarassing though, people have asked me if I am 16 and said I am too young to be married.

People think its weird for an adult to wear braces.

People stare at my mouth all of the time and I feel like people think adults are too old for braces!

I think adult with braces have courage!!!

What do you think about it?

First of all it is a sign that you are an intelligent person who cares about your health. Misshaped teeth beside the unaesthetic aspect can influence your digestion or lead to other medical problems. Also they make it hard for you to brush your mouth correctly and so it increases the risk of cavities.

It's never too late to wear braces! The only thing that's different in adults is the time that teeth need to realign in the correct position. In children teeth reshape faster.

You will look great after and your body will thank you.

I'm adult with braces and I'm old enough to be your mother plus some. This is my first time with braces. My braces come off in October (after 20 months). I've never been embarrassed and no one has said anything negative or said it is weird. It does take courage to get braces as an adult. There is some discomfort and pain at first and a big eating adjustment, but It is worth the time, effort, and money ($4,500). I always get pink, blue, green, or purple rubber bands. More and more adults are getting braces. Modern orthodontics is so much better and easier than it was years ago. I love my straight teeth! Good luck with your braces and give me a big smile!

Even i'm 24 and i recently got braces. My wisdom teeth have not erupted, and the lower ones will never - they were growing horizontallyand had severely crowded my teeth. I got them extracted and now am wearing braces. I was really apprehensive and had always hated my teeth, but now i feel really good, my teeth have started to move into the right place and i'm really really happy.Of course people do notice them, but i am very open with them about it and they're okay after that. And i think if someone does not like you coz of braces, they're real jerks. I would definitely recommend them. Even though they cause pain and you can not eat your favourite food and have to keep brushing and flossing a zillion times, the beautiful smile you get at the end is worth everything. And a lot of adults are wearing them now, so no need to feel ashamed or anything, trust me. Its just a matter of a couple of years.

I got braces at age 34--at the same time as my 13 year old son got his.

You're right, adults with braces have courage. When we'd come home from getting our braces 'adjusted', he'd go outside and play basketball. I'd lie on the couch in agony with a heating pad on my face! The orthodontist said it was because the bones in adults' jaws are more dense and the teeth are more tightly rooted.

As more and more adults get braces, I think people are getting used to the idea--why shouldn't we want to have straight teeth too?

I think its great! I'm 26 and will have mine put on in less than 2 weeks. I know it will be uncomfortable but I can't wait so be that much closer to a perfect smile.
I'm also married and look young for my age. I'm sure that the braces will make me look even younger so don't worry. You're not alone!

There is nothing wrong with adults wearing braces!!! People are so rude sometimes. Enjoy those straight teeth :) They are worth every penny and the staring of others. They will be jealous when they see your pearly whites :)

I know an old lady who wears braces and my dad got braces when he was in his 30s! I am proud of adults that get braces because it shows that they care about their teeth. No one is too old to get braces in my opinion! Good for you. :D
