your smell is what is strongest. It triggers memorys of places or things. For example a hospital or when you got the flu.

but a lot of the time the smell of popcorn makes me want to hurl.

Are you pregnant? Pregnancy make you sensitive to smells....

If not...maybe you just have a weak stomach...

You are also experiencing them through your mouth; i.e., "tasting" the smells.
