That isn't the name of a bacterium, it's the name of a disease: a description (in Latin) of the signs and symptoms. Necrotizing: Making necrotic. Necrosis is death. That is, causing something to die. fasciitis: Inflamation (-itis) of the fascia (a variety of fibrous tissue found in the body). It's just an infection of a particular tissue. The usual microbes that create the condition are Staph aureus or group A Streptococcus. As to where to find 'em: They're probably on the surface of your skin, right now, in the millions. They're very common bacteria, and they're found everywhere.

Tell her! OMG are you being treated by a doctor, 'cause it's sooooo dangerous!!!!! A co-worker of mine got that on her arm, and she almost needed her arm amputated after 1 week!!!
As for what to call it...if she's an intelligent book read kind of gal necrotizing fasciitis sounds fine. If she's kinda simple you should say flesh eating bacteria.
But then again, a rose by any other name.........

Well, she's probably going to wonder what the heck streptococcus pyogenes is and look it up.
It's probably better that you give her the whole story.
