I'd be inclined to say yes that there may very well be two diffent Genetic inclinations.
But I think the inclination is one of trying
to bury ones depression/problems in SOMETHING
not necessarily alcohol, drugs, sex, ect...

How often do you drink and/or do drugs? Anyone can become addicted to both. You can get hooked on drugs the very first time you try them. If you drink alcohol with a drug addiction than there is a very good chance of becoming an alcoholic and a drug junky. I think people who use drugs and alcohol to make themselves feel good are totally pathetic.

my mom was an alckie.. i come from a long line of them. i crave sweets and carbs, because I am not giving my body what it genetically craves, which is alcohol. Hope I helped. I dont do drugs, but i "like" valuim ( had it for a D&C) and i " Like" morphine,( to have my baby quickly as she stopped breathing alot in utero) so i have that to stay away from,as they were both given 2 me in the hospital.... I can't do drugs,as i will get addicted to them. So i traded one addiction for another, drugs for food. besides, I have never seen ANY1 get arrested for having an illegal twinkie!

It really doesn't matter if you are addicted to one substance, but believe you are not addicted to the other. Addiction is addiction. If you are going to stop taking drugs, for it to be effective, you need to quit all mind altering substances, this includes alcohol and prescription drugs.

Without quitting all mind altering substances, you are not really achieving your goal, which is to be drug free, you are just trading one substance for another.

There are people who are addicted to recreational drugs who are not addicted to alcohol....so I am sure it is possible. It's also possible that they haven't drank often enough for it to become an issue. It varies from person to person.
