We are trying to wipe out and re install windows but it is not booting from the disk when we turn on the computer. Is there a hot key to get it to do this? We have a windows password that has been forgotten that we need to get around.

Do a search for Windows 98 boot disk
Download a program and create a 98 boot floppy disk
Boot off the floppy
Selec Command prompt from the menu
If it is not already on the a drive (screen shows A:\>) then type A:
Type format c:
It will format your hard drive
HOWEVER if you can not boot off the Windows CD, you will can not reinstall Windows

Boot the PC and press whatever key will take you into the computer's Bios set up (On a Dell it is F2)
Look for a place in the Bios where it says Boot Order
Move the CD drive to the first position in the Boot Order
Reboot with the Windows CD in the drive and the Windows set up should begin
You can format the hard drive as part of the Windows set up

Don't do it... you can get around the password by hitting f8 as you boot the computer. Select safe mode as the boot method. The hidden admin account will be visible (no password) and you can then go to the user account setting in the control panel to give yourself a new password.

There is a simple way to get around the windows password. Wait a while and someone will come up with it. I have forgotten how. I had the same problem.

You may have to change your boot order in the BIOS to boot from a DOS floppy disk.

*try* F8, and see if it gives you the option to boot in DOS. I'm not sure though.
