Use one scart socket to connect to the NTL box, the other scart to the TV. When you want to record from the NTL, you have to
select the external source (NTL) rather than a channel through the areial connection. To do this you need to select EXT, orAV1 or AV2, depending on what your particular VCR calls it.
The only trouble is , you can only record the NTL channel you are watching, you can't watch say cahannel 101 while recording 105, the VCR would need 2 seperate tuners to do that.

Ok, the NTL box has a scart socket marked up as TV. Put a scart lead into this and plug it into the scart socket marked AV1 (or EXT1) on the back of the TV. Make sure both ends of the scart lead are FULLY in place.
Next, the NTL box has a scart socket marked up as VCR. Put a 2nd scart lead into this and plug it into the scart socket marked AV1 (or EXT1 maybe L1) in the back of your VIDEO player, making sure both ends of the scart lead are FULLY in place.

If you play a tape the video will run through the NTL box and will start on screen automatically
To record from NTL, rather than selecting 1 (bbc1) 2 (bbc2) 3 (ITV) or 4 (ch4), make sure A1 (or EXT1 or L1) is showing in your video window. Select the NTL channel you want to record and press RECORD. You should be able to watch 1,2,3 or 4 on your TV HANDSET while you record from NTL.

IF the picture is still fuzzy, the NTL box is set to play on Composite rather than RGB, which can screw some Video players up. Feel free to email me if you need help with this.

firstly i presume when you say you connect the ntl cable to the vcr that you have connected it to the set top box first and then from there to the vcr.... also try using av2 instead of av1 that sorted my problem when i had a similar experience

Might want to check the back of your VCR and see what channel it is set up for (3 or 4) and see what channel is available through your TV, make sure they correspond.
