I live in a house that I purchased a year ago. This is a endunit townhome with a basement 1st and 2nd floor. It is rectangular. It was built in 1974. I noticed in the basement ceiling there are Steel I beams that run perpendicular to the floor joist. They are underneath the floor joist and are embedded in the cinderblock on each wall. There is one located in the back of the house. One located in the center of the house. However the rest of the house has no more I beams. It would make sense I guess to continue to support the remaining structure with I beams. So I think maybe the builder forgot one.... I'm thinking this because my 2nd floor hallway all the way to my bathroom is not level. The bathroom floor is kind of off level on the 2nd level as well. I'm thinking a frame problem. Anybody have any ideas if I'm in the right thinking......

You are right it seems odd that there are two girder (I beams) unevenly spaced to support the joists. If you have notice sagging of the floor joists, specially where it is unevenly supported, I recommend you contact your insurance company and let them know what is going on. They may be able to provide the engineer and contractor needed to resolve this problem.

Hire a structural engineer to look at it. Honestly if it was built in 1974 its probably alright assuming that everything was done properly. A building inspector should have inspected and ok'd the building as being built correctly. You can also talk to your local county building department about your question and they can pull the plans for your home and you can see for yourself if the I-beam is missing. Good luck.

I don't think maybe the builder forgot one,.
You don't need another beam,It's is other side of the building.they don't put beam every unit,it goes according to the building level(positions of height or range of units.

It is possible that the architect or engineer decided that particular part of the house did not need the additional support. Call a local structural engineer and have them come down. They don't come cheap, but they offer good advice.
