I'm a girl and I have a male friend (in fact I have had a few best friends), and yes there are some guys who always hang around with you to know if one day they can get you, but there are some others that are very good friends. Male best friends are the best, because they take care of you when you need them, they protect you and they teach you all about men...so at the end you get to be one the few lucky girls who can understand men's behavior...isn't that a plus?

That is hard to answer as people never really fit the molds we create for them.
That said, I can quote my philandering brother for you. He said,
'I have never had a woman that was a friend. All women friends are just women I have not banged yet.'
I think your lover MUST be your best friend or else each one is simply banging the other for the time being.
I believe you can have a best friend of the opposite sex but unless one is gay, and even then, there will always be that seed of sexuality.
I sometimes think people with 'best friends' of opposite sex have simply denied the sexuality or come to terms with the fact friends is all they will have.
But lets face it, it is a VERY strong drive for survivals sake of the species. Why not enjoy this instead of always pretending we are above beasts fornicating in the woods?
If we were we would not be so easily tempted and seduced.
Of course someone will say 'I am not seduced by beautiful sexual people' and once more I will use the word...
DENIAL

Sally Albright: I thought you didn't believe men and women could be friends.

Harry Burns: When did I say that?

Sally Albright: On the ride to New York.

Harry Burns: No, no, no, I never said that... Yes, that's right, they can't be friends. Unless both of them are involved with other people, then they can... This is an amendment to the earlier rule. If the two people are in relationships, the pressure of possible involvement is lifted... That doesn't work either, because what happens then is, the person you're involved with can't understand why you need to be friends with the person you're just friends with. Like it means something is missing from the relationship and why do you have to go outside to get it? And when you say "No, no, no it's not true, nothing is missing from the relationship," the person you're involved with then accuses you of being secretly attracted to the person you're just friends with, which you probably are. I mean, come on, who the hell are we kidding, let's face it. Which brings us back to the earlier rule before the amendment, which is men and women can't be friends.

Lets look at the big picture.
What would you look for in a female friend? Compatibility!
No friendship will ever survive without it.
What do you look for in a boyfriend? Again, compatibility.
So, for a male friendship to also survive, you will need compatibility.
At some point in a friendship between a male and female, one of the two is going to realize that they have more in common, and are way more compatible with the other than any opposite sex relationships the have had or are experiencing.
It is at this point that a "friendship" between a male and female will either mature into a boyfriend / girlfriend type of relationship, or one of them realizes that they did not have that much in common and move on to find a more compatible mate.
Keep in mind, for any relationship to mature a compatible friendship must be established first.
If he is your " BEST FRIEND" he is your boyfriend.

It is possible to be friends with a guy, BUT never EVER start the sex stuff. In high school my one of my best friends was a guy and we were fine until we started having sex. We are still friends but now we can't hang out without him trying to have sex with me. Even though I have a boyfriend. So you can have a best guy friend...just don't start the friends with benefits stuff.

depends how u're with him n how long u know! from my personal experience, i'm lucky to have a girl for best friend but she had a serious crush on me when i was with her best friend for 3 yrs. stories apart, it's possible but really have be very sure about how u feel towards him n not hurting his feelings about u. girl, sex is always fact that comes in between once in a while, sometimes sex happens between best buddies as in helping out or as accident. but it's very rare, no one can say with hand on heart that he or she doesn't have feelings deep inside. also this guy best friend or girl best friend of a guy becomes like a serious issue as cheating behind or as a doubt. though there's always some exception. u've to be very frank n open by expression n make sure u make him understand that he's ur best friend only not anything more than that ... best of luck chica

Sex isn't always in the way. My best friend is a guy and we don't look at each other like that. He's got a girl and I got a man. That's how it is. We been best friends for years and nothing happened like that.

A friend, maybe. Happens all of the time. I have plenty of female friends (good people to turn to for dating advice). Don't think that every-time that a guy is nice to you that he just wants sex. I get so sick & tired of that old cleche.

But a BEST friend? I don't think so (unless she is really ugly). Sooner or later, awkward feelings will probably pop up.
