Changes in behavior, the way they look; disheveled, dirty. Dark circles under the eyes is a dead give away for coke use. Sores on face from herion but you would know way before the sores came if they were on that. Nodding off is a dead giveaway, can't stay awake. I guess it depends on the drug as to how they would behave.

Changes in behavior, changes in attitude, are they hyper or sleeping more than normal? Have they changed their eating habits? Also look at their pupils, are they dialated? There are now over the counter tests that you can buy but of course if they are on drugs they wont want to take them.

lots of clues .. eyes tell all. are they shifting back and forth? are eyes droopy (half shut) slurred speech; ticks (ie: licking/ biting lips, head jerking movements..) itching, constantly moving or doing something; picking at skin until bleeding, picking at face, plucking hairs, using bathroom alot or more than usual, look for yellowing teeth (tell tale signs of smoking drugs) look for puntcure wounds in feet arms hands behind ears (signs of "shooting up" drugs) different smell of person (smell bad usually = drug use) poor hygiene, not bathing when supposed to, letting things go that are important (ie: bills, appointments, work, school) i hope this helps, am recovering addict myself living with recovering needle user... one day at a time!
