When your animals are outside unsupervised they are prone to all kinds of hazards. The animal can catch viruses, get diseases from being attacked by other animals, or get killed.

When a cat is only allowed outside on a harness and leash the cat will be healthier, happier, and live longer. More than likely the cat will die of old age peacefully, instead of in pain until the pet must be put down.

Dogs should also be supervised unless they are in a fenced yard. There are many many attacks by wild animals and other dogs that could be easily avoided if pet owners cared more about their pets.

It’s not a bad thing to have an outdoor cat and dog. I put my dogs outside to play then they come back in. If you leave your dog out side, I hope they have a place to go in to protect them from the heat and the cold. When I watch animal cops on animal planet, they always check to see if the dogs have a dog house. I don’t let my cat out because he is small enough to get out of the fence and wonder around the neighborhood. I had a cat that passed away because of anti-freeze poisoning, that’s why I don’t let my cat out side plus I’m scared he might get runned over or someone might steal him.

Two weeks ago I would have said that being outside was somewhat safe for Cats. We have Cats, and put food outside for Others, because there are People here with Cat traps, and so many have come up missing over the Years, owned Cats, and Strays. Yes We have tried to do something. Even though We know the Cats are being trapped, and not being turned over to the pound, We were told We would have to prove The Animals were not being destroyed, (awful word), in a manner that is not merciful.......Anyway, There was a Siamese I named Blue, HE was beautiful. He started getting very thin, and then very large. I treated Him for worms, but He stayed the same. I took Him to the Vet and He had FIP, no vaccine, no treatment, no cure, He had to be put down. Not only that but I brought Him in the House, and kept Him in My room. The Virus is airborne, and the Animals are subject to get this disease from now until 2 years, from what I have been told, and read. So now I have to wait and pray. That is one big reason for keeping Cats inside. They had a vaccine, but it is not effective, and can actually cause the Cat to get FIP, and the test to see if the Cats were infected is very fallable. To read more about FIP You can go to www.animalhealthchannel.com. It is just such a horrible death. The body is fighting very hard against itself, to stave off the disease. You feel so helpless. The Other Feline infectous Diseases are awful too, if not vaccinated against. Also FIP can be caused by something as simple as Your Cat using the bathroom in contaminated soil, and scrathing the soil with it's paw. I have had Cats for years, and did not know about FIP. When I read in My Cat book, there were two possibilities for the sudden weight gain. One was worms, the other FIP. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I wanted to just bring Him home, and keep Him as long as I could before the accumulation of fluids started to become a breathing threat, but the Vet looked at Me and said, but this is Contagious. Thanks for loving God's Creatures. Just thought You might want to know about this threat.

In Memory of My Beautiful Blue.....God Bless

Not bad owners... Pets live longer and healthier lives if they stay inside. So long as they get regular exercise it is not cruel to keep them in. Cats who go out side on average only live a few years. (I used to have nothing but indoor/outdoor cats and I never had one live past 10) but an indoor cat can live to be 18-20 years old.

I don't think it's necessarily wrong; you just have to accept the fact that in the case of a cat, at least, they will probably live a shorter life. They will also have more parasites, more injuries, and more exposure to disease which require more vet visits. If you live away from traffic, and are willing to take your cat to the vet when it needs it (and can handle the increased costs of doing so), I think it's okay.

Now, if you live next to a big highway or a lot of traffic, I would say it's irresponsible. We'd all like to think our animals are smart but seeing the furry pancakes all over the road in my city, they just aren't that smart.

properly, the dogs that were bred for hundreds of years to stay outdoors and fulfill their job (as you suggested up there), i do not imagine that's propose in any respect. see you later as you know they're satisfied doing their area. yet i'm also speaking about the "puppy" kind dogs. convinced, those dogs too are meant to stay outdoors yet in addition they want preserve and in no way basically with their little dogs kennels and nutrients bowls. they want employer with people. this does no longer propose you may basically enable them rome around the homestead. My friends have a dogs next door. to illustrate on warm/warmth days they go away their patio door open so the dogs is loose to bypass into the eating room, the front room and a touch of the kitchen. The dogs isn't allowed on the beds nor upstairs in any respect shall we are saying. yet a minimum of she receives sturdy employer. This dogs (Milly), is a really energetic kind and got here from a clutter of doggies in a foul homestead. My friends besides the undeniable fact that followed her, from this terrible homestead and regarded after her. Milly the dogs is a suitable social gathering for different kinds of dogs. What they bypass by and what they want. this can no longer be precisely the solutions that you're looking for for and that i exhibit regret even if it truly is not. yet i wish I helped a touch a minimum of.

It's not really wrong but I think it is harder on the animals. Believe it or not dogs and cats are very social. You are their pack/pride for cats! They want to be with you too. If he is isolated from you it makes him sad and is not how it would be in nature. As for cats the average life span of an outdoor cat is 5 years the average life span of an indoor cat is 18 years. It's better for cat's to be indoors...

its not bad to let your pet out during the day and stuff, but it is bad when it is 10 degrees outside and your short hair Chihuahua is outside in three feet of snow. There are certain restrictions that are the problem. My dogs love to be outside, but they want in at bed time.
