It depends on the child really,Mine were around 7 or 8,Most still take naps in kindergarten,The way I decided to stop making them was to see how they would act on a daily basis without one.If by 12 or 1 if they didn't seem cranky I would let them stay up.But if they were real cranky I would just send them to take a nap.I didn't try to stop all at once.I have found that quick changes in a routine doesn't always work.Hope this helps.

My son stop about a bit before 5.
some kids are earlier and some are later.
i think it all depends on you daily schedule and ultimately the total amount of sleep a child is getting and their alertness. If your child is falling asleep at dinner time, may be they need a nap or you just need an earlier schedule. i know some kids gave up their nap earlier but would sleep 12-13 hours straight at nite time. Then some would nap till like 6 or something but would only sleep 9-10 at nite and then nap another hours or so during the day.

I have 5 yr old twin Boys and when they were about 2.5 they were still napping but they were not going to bed until 9-10 pm.

My husband and I decided to try having them not take a nap. It made all the difference. They had "quiet time" where they would get a small snack, lay in my bed and watch a movie. That was enough to rejuvenate them and still have them sleep well at night.

Of course it really does depend on the child. I'm sure that you will know when the time comes.

Well it doesn't matter really its all in opinion. I stopped taking naps when i was like 5. But when i get tired i will take a nap if time allows so all in moderation.

At 2.5 i had to stop my sons afternoon sleep. If he had as much as 10 min he would be awake till 11pm. While i realise now that a lot of Americans are o.k with really late bedtimes I am not. So i stopped his and his twins sleeps and they went to bed at 5pm than woke at 7.30 am. He still needed his 14-14.5 hrs of sleep just that it was in 1 sleep now instead of two. His sister would have the occasional sleep in the arvo and stay up till 7pm. Now at the age of 7 she still has the occasional weekend afternoon sleep. yes my daughter could have gone on with her afternoon sleep but it suited all of us to do this. There was no more running home to fit in an afternoon sleep and I got some time to myself at night which as a single mum raising twins I enjoyed.

When I got tired of trying to make him take one.

Personally, I'd rather have them go to bed early than take a nap in the afternoon.

18m.

At about that time, it'd take 2-3 hours to make him nap. Just not worth it. And if he did nap, he won't sleep 'til like 10pm or later.
