Zeus is not really so different from the other gods. The reason you hear about him as being so great is that the gods in Greek mythology are assembled in a type of hierarchy. Zeus and his wife, Hera not Athena, are basically the king and queen. Most, not all but most, of the other gods are kids of theirs. Apollo, Artemis, Athena, Hercules (although Hercules was only Zeus' son and had a mortal mother) and so on. Zeus' brother is Hades who is the king of the underworld and has ultimate rule there and even Zeus cannot usurp Hades authority in matters of the dead and damned. So you see it really is just a matter of royal positioning for the most part.

Zeus is a mythological god who was the "ultimate" over all other gods. How is he different? Well, for one, he ruled over the skies. He had power to cast lightning. Certain gods have power over certain things, like hindu gods...there's alot of them, but one supreme god over all.

He can kick their a$$. He overthrew Chronos and the other Titans. Heck, Chronos was eating his brothers and sisters...none of that for Zeus.
He also wields lightning bolts, so nobody really messes w/ him, particularly if he's angry.
