It's also the most popular book in prison, and let's not forget all the copies stashed in "no-tell motels". Go figure.

I have a preacher friend who tells about how he was challenged to read the Bible back in his pre-Christian days. So he went into a bookstore and took a New Testament.

He said that he had always heard about how much violence and judgement and all there was in the Bible, but when he got to reading it and discovered that it was about faith and love others and all, that he decided he must have stolen a bogus Bible. So he threw it in the garbage and went and swiped another.

He said it wasn't until he got to the fifth one, and it still said the same thing, that he finally started to believe it. He has been in the ministry now for over 30 years, all because of a stolen Bible.

...And since Motel Bibles have been mentioned? Anybody remember Reggie Vinson from the Alice Cooper band? He became a Christian and totally turned his life around a few years back when he went to a motel with a woman he had "picked up", and they ended up reading the Gideon Bible instead and praying to be saved in a hotel in Vegas. Found a preacher a 3:00 in the morning to baptize him in the hotel pool. Been a strong Christian since that time.

So who knows what a Bible, stolen or given in a hotel, can do.

Hotel Bible's cannot be stolen, they are a gift from the Gideons. Free! Go figure, there is still something free in this world.

I find it humerous that they are in hotel rooms.
Yes, on one hand you have your weary travelers, but in my town 70% of the cars in the packed parking lot on Saturday night are local tags as some rent by the hour. A short weekend with men cheating on their wives while the bible is in the bedside table.

isn't it funny the first thing most crooks do when they go to jail is go to Church and see the Doctor all the time because they don't feel good.In real life outside the bars they would do neither
