I am trying to fit in 4 GB of .DAT files onto a DVD to view on a TV. But, I can't compress it as DVD Shrink doesn't recognise .DAT format. So, if I write all the 4 GB of .DAT files on a DVD as a Data DVD, will I be able to watch it on a TV.
If any, please recommend only free software...I already have Nero, though

In most cases no... There are some newer DVD players that specifially say DivX support (Like the Avayon DXP1000 and Philips DVP3040) and those will play mpeg, avi etc files from DVDs that were burned as data- the same as your computer will. But the vast majority of DVD players don't support that, they require you to burn them in DVD movie format.

I asked a question very similar to this and found out apparently it won't work, Data DVD not DVD-Video complaint, apparently. That's just what the answerer said to me though.

But the .dat file, I don't think it could even play on a DivX DVD player. .dat files are usually incomplete files that are still being downloaded. You might could change the filename to avi, mpeg, etc. to try to see it will play on a DivX DVD player but I'm not sure.

I have the Philips DVP642, incredible DivX DVD player that plays divx/xvid avi, mpeg, etc. on DVD±R, CD-R, etc., well worth the 60 bucks!

Hi. No. The DVD must be burned in a format that your DVD player recognizes, such as an ISO burn.
