A nice dinner for two at a romantic up-scale resturant would be nice! A nice dinner is always a good way to celebrate things!

If you want to get a material gift - try something hand crafted - that's usually really nice - we got a hand crafted wooden salad bowl from someone it was really nice!

Also - you can pay to have their engagement photos done and pay for an advertisement in your local paper!

There are not any time obstacles. You adult men sound large. i imagine Jamaica will be an really good position to propose. Get your motel that would really help you, they love doing that type of stuff. Supper on the coastline, a particular meal, candles, breezes, ocean, plant existence.... Heck, i will MARRY YOU!!!! that's some thing she will in no way forget. Oh, and get some thing for the daughter too, a necklace or some thing (some thing she will lose, you could make it extra expensive later). I in basic terms imagine you ought to contain her by some means, the thanks to win over mom! solid success and characteristic relaxing, smile, snicker, swim. Love.

Since they are "old- fashioned" give them a family heirloom or something that was given to you on your engagment/wedding.
A piece of jewerly (brooch or necklace) a quilt, etc.
I gave both my daughters (for shower gifts) a scrapbook with their life stories - baby pictures, school pictures, etc. At the end I placed their wedding invitiations and a few extra sheets - inviting them to continue filling the pages with their "new life"

PS to Lone Eagle - my grandfather was 20 years older than my grandmother and they were married 60 yrs. My uncle was 17 years than my aunt and they were married 48 yrs. My daughters both married men 9 yrs older and both are happily married.
Age is relative - get over it!!

Something personal that they can use in their house together when they get married... my mom gave me a set of sheets which I loved. She's also paying for this wedding which is extremely expensive so any engagement gift was too much, as far as I am concerned! But she gave us lovely bed sheets and I thought that was very nice :)

Give her something from your heart because you know what will pull her heart strings. For example my mom gave me a "Willow Tree" statue (Hallmark store) and she let me wear my grandmothers pearls on the day of the wedding. Just go with your heart.

Get this book, it called "Hard Questions". It has all sorts of questions and issues that couples should discuss before marriage, but don't bother to ask, or it doesn't even occur to them to ask of each other. I got one for my girl friend and she really appreciated it.
