Although I have been out of school for 15 years, my school introduced the salad bar in 1987/88 school year and it is still offered from what I understand. I don't care for salad, and when our school started the salad bar, it was only the second in the county. Do you think more schools should offer the salad bar?

Yes i believe they should. Salad is a healthy alternative to whatever else they may be serving and lots of people like salad. It should always be kept fresh every day though.

Yes. Our schools here used to have a salad bar... but now they have a "salad selection" every day. It doesn't work well for my kids because several have egg allergies and one is a vegetarian so when they're putting egg and ham and turkey on the salads... it's not helpful.

So many kids today are trying to be more careful about their weight (overweight children in the United States being at an all time high) and tons more are vegetarian... so I think it would be a good option. And for goodness sakes, lowfat dressing choices. It's hard to keep a salad healthy when the cheese is full-fat and so are all the dressings!

YES schools should offer salad bars!

Children need to learn healthy eating habits, and school really contributes to the downfall of health in young children. Chips, soda, and burgers are readily available and kids instantly go for that.

When I attended a private high school, we had a fresh salad bar every day, and it was absolutely delicious. Turns out, because we had the option, more people ate the salad than anything fatty and greasy.

I'm all for the salad bar and healthy eating options, kids WILL respond to it!

This has been a really hot topic in England. Jamie Oliver (celebrity chef) started a big campaign about poor school meals in England that went down in quality since the school catering was privatised.
The average value of the food for each child was 22p about 40cents. With no fruit or veg, lots of salt, fat and processed meat.
NOw they are all having to do healthy meals.
Actually it seems that children's behaviour and health improves when they eat a good lunch. There is less disruptive behaviour and less asthma outbreaks.

Yes....I loved the salad bar at my middle school...then i went to high school and rarely did we have salad. maybe once a week...i mostly ate french fries and hamburgers...offering healthier choices is a good idea and a way to control todays obesity.

My middle school had a salad bar. I think it should be in schools because it gives another option other than the chips and soft pretzels and tastykakes and all that "food" they serve. Start them out early with that option to eat healthier.

yes! It should definately be offered! If it's there maybe the kids would be tempted to get it. Healthier foods should always be available. I would rather my kids eat a salad then a plate full of fries

All schools should have salad bars. Too bad they didn't have them when I graduated high school in 1969! College did have one though!
That was 1972!

I think it's a great idea! Much better than the greasy Pizza Hut and Taco Bell that was offered at my school

I think that it should be in all schools.
And if is started at a younger age maybe more kids would eat salad as they got older.
