I see many statements not even questions posted on this form that have nothing to do with Immigration. Many just talk bad about Hispanics and Blacks.

True. Many people put on personas and just talk about Immigration. You will see the same character with many different accounts that spam this form with hateful raciest comments both against White and Hispanics. Then you have one that start hating on people that have nothing to do with immigration. People usually stick together on this form and follow each other around either bad mouthing each other or supporting there bigotry ideas. Just sad.

Unfortunately Yahoo Answers is either being astroturfed ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astroturfing )by right wing racist war mongers who want to give the general public a certain idea of opinion in American society, or American culture in general is in a bad way. It's funny that immigration in America is such an issue when America is a nation made up almost entirely of immigrants! I think the real issue is the economy, and the immigration factor is the scapegoat. The global economy is essentially a feudal system, with different countries at various levels, vassal states and baron nations. China is a big vassal state. Mexico is the vassal state for America. Mexicans wouldn't flock to America if America wasn't economically stronger than Mexico. The American finance dominates the world. Did you know that that America controls 17% of the voting power in the IMF (International Monetary Fund)? That means that they can veto any decision that benefits another country whilst making America less rich. They can also veto agreements like the Kyoto protocal, just because they are rich and therefore powerful. It is SELFISH, whatever way you look at it.

Whatever happened to the freedom loving, generous, funny, innovative, open minded and wonderful American public? I want them back - though of course I know there are many great individuals still knocking around, for sure.

I personally think that the hostility America has been subject to from other countries has made many proud Americans upset, and they're lashing out.

American people reading this - it's your government and your biased media like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh that are poisoning things, not you! Sort it out! Stop being hurt and try to UNDERSTAND why your country is receiving the criticism it does. Your government ARE doing things wrong - Bush's low approval ratings indicate that most of you realise this. Bring back the old America. Not only I, but many people I know miss it greatly.

Another note - I'm from England and I'd say that there's a similar anti-immigration vein being drummed up by the media mainly. There is definitely an agenda behind it - more government control is the main aim I think. More government control means more economic power. That's essentially it. It wouldn't matter if it were Hispanics, Chinese, Africans, Eastern Europeans, Russians - whoever threatens the economic supremacy of a powerful state will get it in the neck, and then it will be racially stigmatised. So the basis for racism, that is a negative, hateful attitude to another racial group, is economic protectionism I would say. Racism is often based upon rich people looking down on poorer peoples and preventing them from getting any richer or enjoying the material comforts that come with affluence.

So we need to sort out the global economy and end wage slavery. That I believe will go a long way towards easing racial tension.

Sh*t, I think that is a damn fine answer if I don't say so myself.

Each category has a few people on it causing trouble for their own reasons. The largest amount of this is pooled in categories that can be controversial with feelings running high, such as the religious and immigration forums. Obviously they weren't intended as such and there is still valuable information in these areas for people who are looking for answers. You can help keep out the idiots by flagging posts that are blatantly in violation of Yahoo's rules.

Kirsten, It's called the First Amendment!

If people want to use this as a forum to express their views about ethnic groups that is not just OK it's what we expect from a townhall. Instead of asking questions like this you should be answering questions from those you think are racist.

Don't be flippent, answer their questions, use good solid logic and quote references, stick to the facts and maybe together we can help move people into a community rather than resort to their name calling tactics.

Yes! It is. I have posted many questions here about immigration. I have only gotten a few decent responses, and the rest were just racist remarks about hispanics. I think it is disgusting. People write about things, and have opinions on things that they don't even understand or have the facts about!!!

The immigration category is a place for Legal Americans to express their utter disgust for the way the US government is refusing to obey the law and take action to STOP the ILLEGAL ALIEN INVASION....

It is not a racial matter, no matter how much the Mexicans or illegal alien lovers try to make it one.... illegal aliens come from many different countries.... it is about the LAW, enforcing the LAW, and the FUTURE of OUR Sovereign Nation: The United States of America.....

Illegal aliens do not belong in the USA, they are criminals, all of them.....

the border needs to be closed immeditately...

and the deportation of all illegal aliens and thier children, needs to start immediately also.

There is no room for bleeding hearts or touchy feely.... this is a serious issue that will have an effect on your children and your children's children.... the standard of living, American culture, American health, living costs, crime, prison population.... etc...

Some people on here are racist. Most just want to talk about the issue. Sometimes when people can't think of anything to say they bring race into it. There are racist comments in lots of other categories too though.

LOL you should be here on 'hate on white people day'!
It's 'gringo' this, 'white people' thus-and-such, 'gabacho' so-and-so, the race card gets frequent flyer miles in here...sad, too, because the issue's pretty straightforward. There's about 12-20 million people basically demanding US citizenship, and there's a lot of people that are fundamentally against them getting it because it runs completely foul of our immigration laws. It doesn't really even have anything to do with race, because the illegals come from all over the world, and we already have a wide variety of ethnic groups in our country.

The question is whether we're going to follow the relevant laws on immigration or not...

Racists is used so often by those that do not understand its meaning, those that have no real valid argument, and those just attempting to demean. If I told you that from my perspective I dislike the English and refered to England as a Nation of Mad Dogs, would you call me a racist?
Well! Tell me what you think?
