We know that a 4 year old can be potty trained .. but are you referring to a child that isn't fully potty trained? Is the child having problems at night? But fine during the day. I really need to know a little more before commenting.

My smart daughter didn't potty train until 3 1/2. She didn't feel safe because we moved into a rental unit and then moved to our new home six months later. The two moves made her feel insecure and the diapers made her feel secure. She wasn't ready to move on.

One day as I was changing her diaper, she asked me when we were going to move next. I had to tell her that we don't move around every year and that this is our home. She was able to get rid of her diapers.

Not being potty trained at four has huge implications. By this time, children notice that all the other children are potty trained and they want to be like them. Schools typically will not take untrained 4 year olds. There could also be a medical problem.

IF it is your child yes, However you do not know what goes on in someone Else's home so you can not say that. There are all types of medical reasons some children are not potty trained earlier. My niece had cancer and it damaged both kidneys and bladder. We did not care about potty training we are glad she is here. My daughter has kidney disease she was potty trained by 18 months but not all the children at her hospital were that lucky.
Home life also plays a part. So if not your child take foot out of mouth.

Geez, people. Kids learn things and mature at different rates. Maybe this child isn't ready, or is afraid, or something. It is probably nothing medical. Has he/she been pressure or shamed about potty training? (sounds like it if you are embarassed)

Maybe you need to take the pressure off your child, and it will happen. If you have a pediatrician or preschool teacher/childcare provider you trust, talk with them. Try leaving your child without undies or pants while you are at home. Make it fun and easy to go potty, not scary and stressful.

Relax, it will happen!

I think a 4 year old should def be potty trained unless there is a disablility. Kindergarden is around the corner-the child can't start school in diapers! C'mon get on the ball and get that kid trained properly.

yeah it can be but when its time for the kid to go on the potty he will show signs. mom or dad need to see those signs, and teach the child. the kid will say poopie, fror example. and put him/her on the pot. and do it when he wakes up and every hour. try running water or pour warm water on their privates, or just in the potty, and then reward him/her for going. i have a 2 yr old who is being potty trained, and a 9 yr. old step son who still poops and pees in his pants. THATS EMBARASSING!!!!!!
