A woman I know told me she only washes her hair 1 or 2 times a week because she doesn't have oily hair. I think that's disgusting. Does anyone else agree?

Oh and she's not a really old lady. I know older women can get away with this.
This woman is 48.

If I wash my hair more than 3 times a week it gets dried out, regardless of which conditioner I use.
As she said, if she doesn't have an oily scalp or BO, you shouldn't be judging so harshly.

I was talking to a doctor about this and he said actually the hair should be washed no more than once a week (unless your hair is very fine). Of course this may not be socially acceptable. But it is the healthy thing to do.
The oil that the body creates for the hair actually makes the hair healthier when allowed to work its way in to the strains. The scalp also becomes healhier and you get a more fuller head of hair.

Now you can wash once a day if that is something you prefer. But you have to becareful. If your hair or scalp dries out you need to stop or change to a better shampoo. Otherwise you will start to damage the hair.

It's the same with skin. If you wash your hands too many times a day, you will dry them out and you actually INCREASE your chance of picking up germs.

By the way, washing hair does not prevent or encourage hair loss. Hair loss has to do with hormonal levels, not health of hair.

Water is considered to be a very good solvent. (Water, in its pure form) is a tasteless, odorless substance that is essential to all known forms of life and is known as the universal solvent. It has the ability to dissolve many types of substances. The substances that will mix well and dissolve in water (e.g. salts) are known as "hydrophilic" (water-loving) substances.) So if a person takes a good shower daily and during that time, washes his / her hair thoroughly, it will be clean and healthy. The need to shampoo ( and later cook it with hair driers) every day does not really arise. A simply thorough shower or bath is enough.

Consider this, till the late 16th Century the Western people
( European and American ) never even took a bath, let alone shower. They believed that if they did this then they will get Pneumonia.

Consider this, even now the Western people do not entirely wash their behinds after they been to toilet. They simply wipe.
Even, the morning after, a highly active night, most European people only use a bidet. These are the reasons why Toilet Tissue is a big business.

I am sure you know this well.

properly excuse maximum of those those who don't know that a black persons hair and a white persons hair are not from now on an analogous. A black persons hair does no longer carry moisture besides as a white persons hair might want to so for this reason washing the hair another day will make it dryer and dry hair isn't sturdy hair. What you may want to do is condition your hair surely each 5 days and condition and shampoo each 10 days. Conditioner supplies the hair moisture and that is what our kind of hair desires. Shampoo strips the hair of airborne dirt and dust yet, it also strips it of the needed oils mandatory to hydrate the hair. so see you later as you do not condition AND shampoo each 5 days then you definately must be wonderful.

Well, some people don't have problems with getting their hair dirty. It would be gross like if she worked out in one or two ofdays of that weeks, or is she went swimming in a lake or ocean or got baby throw up in her hair, but as long as she doesn't have oily hair and satys away from things like the above that get your hair dirty in an instant, no that's not too terribly gross. I personally wash it evry other day, and sometimes every day. It depends on my activities. But then I have oily hair. so I don't know how often I would wash my hair if I had dry hair.

No. Since I'm a black woman, I do not need to wash my hair everyday, unlike most white women. Our hair is VERY different from ya'll. I only have to wash my hair once a week, maybe twice. And no my hair doesn't smell, actually my shampoo fragrance can last all week long.

You can shower without washing your hair. It gets all the dirt out without disrupting the natural oils. She might realizes this and still shower more than 1-2 times a week. But if not at least she is conserving the most valuable resource on our planet.

No. African American woman only wash their hair once a week some every other week. Our hair will loose its natural oil if we wash it daily or more than once a week. So no I do not think it's disgusting.

No.It's a fact that washing your hair too often, washes away all the natural oils. A lot of models and hairdressers only wash their hair once a week, sometimes less. I doubt if God gave Eve a bottle of shampoo when he made her.....and she still hooked Adam

I only wash my 1or 2 times a week because I have dry hair and the more I wash it the drier it gets. Just because she doesn't wash her hair everyday doesn't mean she doesn't take a bath or shower.

i personally can't stand to go one day without washing. but in previous generations it was very common to wash hair/body only a time or two a week. 48 is on the border line, but possibly she was the youngest of a family that did that. both my parents grew up in households of 9 children and properly bathed once a week, sharing a tub of water! ewww. but they turned out ok, and actually bathe more often now lol. as long as they don't smell or look dirty, who cares?
