Question stated above.
If I could, how should I ask? (in a more polite way)
I can't just go "hey! is xxx buried here?"

please help! I really don't know how to ask in a better way.

Yes, you can call.

How about, "My friend passed away, but I'm not sure where he/she is buried. Could you please check whether ____ has been buried there?"

If you want to visit the grave, they often have maps of the cemetery so you can find the grave.

what a bad situation.. :( i think you can simply ask.. i am sure you will not be the first one asking this..

but isnt there a better way to find out if your friend is dead or alive?
ooh, then you are trying to find out which cemetery he is buried in.

oh my god, i cant believe i am writing these sentences..

Yes, you can. Just contact the office of that particular cemetery who has the records. Any one can view them or have them read over the phone. They are public records.

Yes ,but don't expect an answer. Try to look up the death notice in the local paper of the town your friend lived in.Or contact a mutual friend of yours, they might know. His family might like it if you ask , they may be comforted by you remembering him or her and wanting to visit the grave.

sure, and ask if they can connect you to his room. maybe order some room service for him and watch some tv when you go to visit.
