There weren't really any newspapers written on the Oregon trail, but there were lots of diaries. You might find some mentions of the travelers in the major cities on the route, and there was a newspaper in Oregon CIty that listed the new arrivals (it's used for determing who was one the trail, when). There were also books written that were used as guides by the travelers. Here's a great site to start with, and a couple other one's to help as well.
