Nursing pay is not too bad, you can make a living from it. Nursing is also a career that is in demand and never really goes away. As most people say, If you have a heart and passion for people you will do great but just like every other "people job" you will always encounter problems because of different personalities that you have to deal with.
Nursing is mostly a "woman's job" so you know what that means. Think about the gossiping, the backstabbing and at that time of month when hormone is raging. I don't think I have to go there........
In nursing, there is also a lot of politics among the doctors, families, and other members of staff that "the nurse" has to fix. You have to remember that we see people during the most difficult times in their lives......"they are sick/near death". Sometimes there are division in families that the nurses has to deal with that was pre-hospital. Some families maybe violent (guns, knives or even sue you) because things aren't going the way they would love them, dealing with a diagnosis that is terminal is not easy for most families and they will take it out on you etc.
I am not here to discourage you. I am just giving you some pointers because you asked for the good/bad. The good thing also is if you don't like one department you can always go to the next. I would encourage you to do your homework before you enter the field like any other and make sure this is really what you want to do because trust me...........it's not for everyone.
Just like everything else, sometimes I really enjoy it and they are days when I ask myself what was I really thinking. It's just the "political side" that drives me nuts and I mean nutsssss and that's something you can't really escape. They are married!!!

good side is that it pays well. There will always be a need for nurses. You can go anywhere in the country and find a job nursing.
bad side is that you have to work long hours, are on call constantly and if a patient you are watching dies, you have to live with that guilt (even if it's not your fault). With my job, I can leave it at work. I don't go home and think about what happened in the day. A nurse would have a tough time leaving work at work. They will wake up in the middle of the night wondering if they could have done more to help a patient.

The hours arent great and having all kinds of poo, mucous, blood, and other human liquids thrown on you cant be pleasant, and Im sure cleaning it up isnt much fun either. But on the up side, nurses get paid pretty well and have a job where they actually get to help people (unlike most of the mundane jobs in this world).
