What happens to us, when we realize, we are not the Center of the Universe?

Is it liberating, or is it depressing?

Why do you think I ask this question, this way?

For me it fills me with a sense of wonder and a sense of humility. Not liberating, maybe but exciting. And poetic.

As for why you ask it this way, well I guess you're addressing those believers of a book-writing God who see themselves as the centre of the universe.

I think it's both. When you first realize you are not the center of the universe that not everything revolves around you it can be a bit of a downer, however, given enough time one sees how truly free they can be when not everyone is paying attention to them.

Why do you ask that question.. hmmm.. well I think at some point or another every human thinks that they are the center of the universe so it's a good question.

According to modern astronomy, every point is the center of the universe (or no point is), so I'm not sure you're correct. But I think you are alluding more to the realization that the universe is not simply some mechanism meant to benevolently provide for us. In a sense, everything is dependent on everything else. I find that liberating, because it implies that the actions of any single entity can influence the whole. It makes my choices relevant to the entire universe.

Very liberateing, I think. But, I would like to try to be the center of the universe sometime. That sounds like it could be fun for a day or two. I don't know why you ask that just now. Curious as usual.

Liberating. You realize that the entire universe doesn't depend on you, but that you equally share in the co-dependence of the universe itself (everything interacts with each other for its own need and benefits). It awakens us to the reality that we are a part of the universe and not above it (or superior to it).

Not sure why you asked the question the way you did, but it's a great question.

Liberating for only a liberated mind can understand the truth. A closed mind is sealed in darkness and surrounded by ignorance. As to your formulation of the question, I'd say it is challenge those who view the universe in one of two ways, as an act of creation (thus the respondents would be depressed) or as an evolution (thus a liberation that possibilities abound).

That's my 2 cents.

It's depressing when you find out that you are not important or special.

According to NASA The current cosmological model of the Universe supposes that our position within the Universe is typical, not special. We are not located at the center of the Universe, but are rather taking part in its global expansion.

I suppose it would be depressing if it were true. However, the "center of the universe" is a relative thing that centers on each consciousness contemplating it. Thus for every individual, they are their own "center of the universe". Isn't that sorta the very definition of sentient thought?

I never wanted to be the center of the universe, so it's all good with me, neither liberating or depressing really.

I think you ask this because it's something you thought of and wondered what people would say to it :)

Are you trying to tell me that I am NOT the center of the universe?
Sir, my dog would disagree with you on that one.
Then again, me and Riff both agree that my grand daughters are actually the center of the universe.
But then, they both have moments when they seem to think the dog is the center of the universe...then again, all three of them get excited when the ice cream truck comes down Gramma's street...

It's all just too confusing! I think I'm going to go and dye my hair blonde!

(No, sir, that is NOT blonde hair in my pic...that is SILVER, if you please...and I earned every glowing strand of that stuff...it shows my wisdom, thank you very much!!)
