I'd like to see a sporting event while I'm in Paris. Although, I'm not a rugby fan friends have told me that rugby games are quite fun to watch. Where can I check for available tickets during late September through mid October?

As Fred055 stated earlier, the "Stade Francais" would be great to watch. This is the parisian team playing in a stadium West of Paris. You'll be closer to the action than you would in the large stadium North of Paris (European Cup).
