yes. it is a realization of our own mortality and it usually hits us all at various times in our lives - not just in our mid 50s. it can hit recent college grads who have no idea what they want to do with their lives, new parents afraid of what will happen if they aren't there to raise the baby, and anytime someone loses a spouse. basically it can happen anytime there are major life changes or upheavals. it is normal, but if you feel that it is taking over your life, try talking to your pastor, a good friend, or a mental health proffessional. usually we find a way to move on and not dwell so much on this topic. most people do not end up pathologically depressed over this or anything. i think it is mostly a fear of the unknown. death is unavoidable, but that doesn't mean we should all go around moping and fearing the future when there is so much to do between now and then!

Its Not completely a mental disturbance. Its a realisation that half of your younger and best years of ones life has passed by and the rest is going to be lonely. Its basically insecurities running deep.

It's a phenomenon that is largely circumstantial...many people never go through it, but most do at some point...and it's usually at the point where you wake up middle aged, and you're not exactly sure why things haven't worked out quite the way you planned them...and feeling some resentment about it, resolve to make it right, and then the ultimate realization that perhaps you're too old to make it right...

hahaha! Yes it is. In other words, if you have a midlife crisis, YOU PANIC and get totally lost and all sweaty and airy in the head. I hate those moments...

For most people I think it is a re-evaluation of their lives and not a mental disturbance. It appears to be a part of normal maturation to me.

mostly it is i think. however hormone depletion could be part of it too. men lose hormones later in life and sometimes actually need supplemental hormones but most do not get it because they are not used to going to doctor for such things. Androgel is a testesterone gel which is applied to the upper arms and shoulders or abdomen which allows men to get their testesterone level back to normal, if it is low. men should NOT take it if their hormone level is normal however.

anxiety effects everyone....you could call it that but mostly it's just a persons way of grasping for a piece of their youth.
it should pass.
if it doesn't then you may be seeing a more serious problem.
Good Luck:)
