Depending upon your operating system and the word version, you may be able to find the document. Once you power on the computer and opened word. Word should automatically detect that a failure occurred and retrieve the latest document. If this does not happen your next alternative is to do a search found in the start bar. You Will need to type "*.tmp" for the files to be search and sort through the dates to the most recent file. If you only worked on 1 document that day then you should see 1 temp file with the date in question.

If Word did not auto-save a backup, then no.

You can consider the power outage a suggestion to get a personal UPS. Your local computer store should have some short duration ones for less than $50. Basically, they only give you enough time to save your work and shut down your computer. But it sounds like that is exactly the kind of thing you need.

Word saves your work every 5 minutes or so. Just open Word again and it should say that it has a temp document.
