they will eventually.....ufc (modern rules) is only about 12 years old and look how big it is already....fighter are being paid well over $500,000 per fight, plus alot more if they win!
then you also have pride and k1 which are also extremely popular.....mma is already one of the most popular sports in japan.
and when you compare this with boxing which has been going on for 100s of years...... looks like mma has slready caught up.....
lets face it here boxing is a dieing sport....these days its just plain boring, partly because of the personality-less braindead boxers!!.........mma/ufc is the sport of the future!!

No, never, ever. Ocar delay hoya will make 30mil if he fights mayweather. Who in the ufc has ever made 30mil total. Oscar could buy the ufc.
1. nobody wants to see 2 men roll around on a mat together.
2. Knockout come 2 randomly, there is no fun in tring to predict an outcome.
3. Careers come and go too fast for the sport to develope stars that capture the intrest of people.
4. The sport has no minor league system or amature development.
Ufc will never touch boxing at its lowest valley.

Undoubtedly they will be big, but not as big as boxing title fights.
1. the UFC fights only last 3 rounds (or 5 compared to boxing)
2. There really isn't a science to UFC fights; its just a bar fight without beer bottles

As a fan of both sports, its hard to say. It'll be awhile, that's for sure. I guess a lot of it is how you define "big". In terms of PPV buys, maybe. In terms of revenue generated, boxing is still well ahead--like one of the previous posters noted Oscar De La Hoya would make more with one fight than every MMA fighter in the world combined.
By the way, props to the poster's nickname--cool "Point Break" reference, man ; )

I don't know. I would have said never, but the sport of UFC is way more popular now than I ever thought it would be, and it's actually been around longer than I thought it would. So maybe.

It will take a while, but possibly.
UFC is purer. Less weight divisions, and only one champ per division.
Also - boxers who have tried to compete in UFC or MMA (Shannon Briggs, Francois Botha, Ray Mercer) - get their a***s handed to them.
