No one, he retired. Unfortunatley, financial problems forced him to have to come back and he couldn't beat the new champion (Ezzard Charles).

Joe Louis retired in 1949 as undisputed heavyweight champion. The title was vacant until Ezzard Charles beat Jersey Joe Walcott. Louis attempted a comback and finally retired after losing to Rocky Marciano in 1951.
