Personally I think it's a metaphor for knowledge. For with knowledge we discover the truth about mans lying love affair with God. -me

It's a real tree. As with any book you read the text indicators around it clue you in. If it were a metaphor there would be the words "like", "appearance", "as" etc. Instead you find "So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate". It is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil because by disobeying God we "know" evil intimately.

We now have Jesus Christ to redeem us from our sins (the times we have disobeyed God).

Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

I think it was an actual fruit, from the tree of knowlege, but it was not the actual eating of the fruit which was the sin, it was the choice to do so, and as a consequence we are paying the price. Knowledge which would have been best unknown was sought, ignorant bliss would have been our fate if Eve had not given into temptation and in so doing influenced Adam [dumb-***]. Like a good parent God sought only to protect his children from pain, but like the brats we are, we too would have wanted to see for ourselves.
And so we would have been tempted as well.

And no it's not sex, God is the only being capable of speaking life into exsistance [we need to have sex to make babies, that why Eve's punnishment was INCREASED pain] And if he was so sure of his creation there would be no need for the test.

He made the earth for us[ why else would he had bothered to make our bodies so complexed], the heavens for the angels. that why they are spirits and we are flesh, they can see us we cannot in our sinful state see them, they weep for us in our maize of confusion, and their sorrow increases the further away we go.

P.S I am passionate about my God, but not perfect.

It was an actual fruit, because there were many other fruit trees to eat from, but Adam and Eve had to eat from the one God told them not to. For years it was said to be an apple. It wasn't the fruit per say, it was the obedience that God was looking for.

It was a tree in the garden of Eden. Only one tree, not a grove or orchard of them.

Once the fruit was touched or eaten, it had long lasting effects on each and every one of us for the remainder of earthly time.

The tree no longer exists on earth, but the tree of life, which was not forbidden in the beginning, will be back at the end of tribulation for all of us to eat from. (God)

It was not a metaphor, it was a real tree and it took a physical act of disobedience to God to touch it and eat from it.

jibba jobba I think you are on the right track. It is no surprise that the scriptures tell us we were made in the vision of god. It,s not difficult if you take the experieces you have had with life to understand the nature of god is within. Only when you have enlightment with yourself to you find god. coincidence I think not

By George I think you've got it, because of the different translations most people think of an actual fruit that you can eat.
