They belittle such wonderful gifts as giving birth, and raising children. Its only when they are old and struggling to conceive that they realise how foolish they have been.

True true. you're right. woman does not need demean manhood to be equal but to support and sustain and work in partnership in the family. Men and women are both equal but with different roles, they complete each other. Primary role of woman is a wife and a mother and the man's is provider, protector and a presider.

I don't think that equality means acting like a man, nor does it mean belittling motherhood. Having children is a choice, not a role or mandatory station that we have to live up to. Equality, asked by anyone, is a right that all people have. It does not matter if we are women; men; black; white; handicapped; or any other race; creed; etc...! Yes, men and women will always have different roles that our genders have set forth for us, like giving birth is held by the women, just like having sperm is held by a man. You get the idea I'm trying to convey. But as for equality, again, that is a right everyone around the world has.
As for what you say about seeing old women trying to conceive, how old are you talking about? Maybe these women you speak of aren't having problems because they are old, but because they simply have problems conceiving. That is a problem women, young and older, have. Hence fertility doctors. The foolishness you see, is maybe all you want to see, simply your own perception of them.

I'm not sure where you get this idea. I'm sure there are some women who "act like men" but that doesn't mean all of us who want equality are doing it so we can pee standing up. Some simply want the chance to get paid the same as a man would for the exact same job. Which is what the whole equality thing was supposed to be for to begin with.

As for belittling giving birth, I'm not sure what you mean. If you are talking about those who just don't give birth... well, I view that as more honorable than getting preg and then getting an abortion cause you just don't want to deal with it. Or getting preg by a man who leaves the woman because she got preg. *Shrug* I guess it depends on how you look at this one and what the reasons are for each individual to begin with.

What exactly is "acting like a man"? The fact that a woman, man, or member of any other group does not conform to stereotypes is not acting wrong.

People are individuals. Roles in society or family are important, but need not be pre-defined for us based on things we can't control, just as long as everything gets done by someone. We typically call those "jobs", and for every such job there are plenty of both men and women who are willing and able--and those that aren't.

Because they can. Simply put a woman has the right to behave however she wishes as long as she is not hurting others. That right is not exclusive to men. Some women don't want to give birth and have children. They would rather have successful careers or travel the world. I don't think that means that they are acting like men, I think they are thinking independently of what society considers "lady-like". And you know what. GOOD FOR THEM!!

The right of equality gives us the right to act like whatever we wish! It may seem odd to you but not every woman in this world wants to give birth or raise children! And not all of those women turn around when they are old and wish they had. Stop generalizing you redneck! Maybe if you get out a little in the world you'll learn to see the differences in people.

We, as western women, have the right to act in anyway we choose. I for one would never belittle giving birth or raising children, it is the greatest gift.

Act like a man? By that do you mean work outside of the home? There is no greater gift than children though, I must say. It took my husband and I 15 years to have our son. Because I had a career during that time [and now], that doesn't mean I was belittling motherhood. I love motherhhood!

I don't think of it as belittling those things, but rather having the choice as to whether they want to pursue those things or not. You talk as if giving birth or raising children are easy and euphoric, that it is absolutely "foolish" not to want those things. Spoken like a true male chauvinist.

Ask a man in western culture if he really wants to take care of a woman to enable her to have children at an earlier age. Women in this culture have no choice but to seek their own future, if they don't chances are they won't find a partner that is worthy.
Women don't belittle thier gifts, they have very little choice!
GRRRRRRRR!!!

Equality means the right to act how they want, and be *treated* equally. In other words, paid the same, offered the same rights and opportunities, given the same respect, etc.
