My dog becomes irritable whenever I touch the left side of her face. There seems to be a little blue cloudiness in her left eye--she is only 4 years old and the reason I am concerned is my other dog had this "bluishness" in both eyes, but the vet said she could see sufficiently. Are there any kinds of test I can give her, before being concerned and taking her to the vet. Her right eye seems fine for now.

The "bluish" cloud is usually an indication of cataracts, but it can also be an eye infection. This is something that should be checked by your vet just to make sure; if it's an infection it might be treatable, but the longer you wait the less chance there will be of recovery.

This is one of those things you really should go to your vet for. This I am sure goes without saying but I'll say it anyway...these dogs should not be used for breeding. It is possible that there is a retinal disorder or cataracts, both of which are hereditary and could be passed onto puppies. If you havent had the vet check the dogs over I would. It could be simply something in the eye and the eye is forming a callous around the foreign object, if that is even the situation. Either way I would get them into a vet for a complete check up.

I think it's best to get it checked if you're concerned - eyes are nothing to fool around with. My 2 older dogs have a slight cloudiness in their eyes now, can't remember the name of the condition, but it's pre-cataracts. They are noticeably more cautious coming in the house when it's dark out, more careful on stairs when it's dark, but other than that, they don't show any signs at all of vision loss. In fact, their long distance sight is as sharp as ever. But a 4 year old shouldn't have anything like this, so I'd be getting it checked.

dear Gabbyabby,
At first glance, your dogs tenderness is a sign of possibly major problems. For example, an injury, infection, even a hair line fracture.
Gabbyabby I would make an appointment immediately with your vet. If your vet is too busy or wishes to see your baby, several days from now. My advice would of course be to change vets. The bluish and or cloudiness could the start of vision loss. There are many simple tests for this. But please bring your baby to a good vet.
Whatever you do please take good care of your pet. They need a lot of love, care, good food, and plenty of affection. Animals are never to busy to demonstrate their love for us..

I have a blind Weimaraner and he went blind lsowly.
We noticed he had trouble finding the ball in the yard when playing fetch and did not follow it when it was thrown but more like listened for it to drop.
He stopped chasing the laser pointer dot on the floor, a game he loved to play.
He ran into things.
When hunting he would somtimes spook at his shadow like something was close to him.
He gets around pretty well now and still hunts and can find birds.
He still loves life and does ok he is a sweet dog and we love him blind or not.
